What do you eat for Breakfast?
I am looking for a high protein low carb breakfast recommendation. I want to change from my traditional oatmeal breakfast.
I have read "the zone" reciepes and they all seem too complicated. Time is of course a factor as well. I don't have 30 minutes for prep time. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |
Is it High Protein/Low Carb you meant? What is the reason for change, from High Carb/Low Protein to High protein...
Either way a High carb morning meal, which I usually choose is Muslie(non sweetened).Tasty and healthy. If you are looking for a quick High protein/Low Carb, try having some toast and eggs.Take about 4-6 large eggs and only use the whites(and 1 yolk).(There is no fat in the egg whites)Mix up in the microwave and put in for couple of minutes(keep eye on it), putting fork into it occassionally and moving it about.(bursts otherwise). Can add salt/pepper to taste, and also mushrooms etc. Toasted Bagels and tuna...Chicken...etc |
I would recommend a whey protein based shake with a little fruit if you want to add some carbs or cream, flax oil, coconut or even eggs if you want to make it real low carb.I even add oatmeal to mine so you really can structure it to any nutrient profile you want and its very cheap if you buy the protein in 5lb or larger bulk sizes.

There's always the 'See Food Diet'... (You see food and you eat it!) :D
|
I usually have a shake. Loads of calories and tonnes of protein
|
:) Met-rx Chocolate peanut-butter shake.Veryyy good.
|
Cheerios with 2%, a slice of wheat toast with I can't believe it's not butter... and a home made Illy cappuccino or latte from my new super auto......... yummy
|
Skuda, How many miles are you riding? I'm a big proponent of low carb diets for every day "low out put" meals, but oats are one of the things that I eat for breakfast when I go for a ride! My rides are usually around 30+ miles in 1.5-2 hours depending on the weather and road conditions.
One of my fav breakfast are 2 eggs scrambled with some cream cheese thrown in and a few link sausage with a cup of coffee. |
i have myself a nice protien shake. i take isopure zero carb whey protien. with that i put 16oz of skim milk, a bananna and what ever berry type fruit i may have at the moment.
|
Scramble 2 eggs (whites & yellows... don't get me started, it's a "religious" topic), lubricating pan with Pam, and 1 slice of toast, if 2 is too many. Apple butter is lower in calories than jams & jellies.

Eggs, Bacon, and Grits with a couple glasses of OJ aint bad.
|
I have a bowl of Nutri-Grain (sports cereal, so the commercial says) and a banana, maybe a Powerbar also for longer rides and a good serve of pasta for dinner the night before. A cup of coffee and some orange juice.
CHEERS. Mark |
bacon , eggs ,sausages, grilled pigs kidneys, fried bread, grilled tomatoes& mushrooms, washed down with copiuos cups of industrial strength Irish coffee:D
Oh well dreams are free  |
no, unfortunatly its useuly 2 eggs on toast & a couple of cups of tea
|
c'mon guys, I didn't hear eggs w/ salsa! Salsa is a great food, low in bad things, and I think you can count it as a veggie!
Next time, spice up your eggs w/ some picante! Pace Picante medium is my favorite on eggs. The hot is good, but it drowns out the egg flavour too much, and I find its better on stronger foods like tacos and the like. BTW, I am not from texas :D |
chocalate cytosport whey protein mixed with vanilla silk soy milk!mmmmmmmm! I not know about the carbos but it is good protien and actually tastes pretty good and its fast.

yogurt with fuit, sprinked with wheat germ and soy nuts; two pieces of toast with peanut butter. sometimes a glass of mineral water. coffee.
i can ride a century on that. |
During the week I usually have eggs and cereal.
On the weekends before a ride we will have pancakes or French toast, eggs & some times bacon. A glass of juice, cowboy style coffee. Slainte:beer: |
Having it this instant as I prepare for my 9 am ride.. A Trader Joe's High Carbohydrate, high protein dry cereal, coffee and a banana.. I always have a energy bar in my jersey pocket in case..
At least six hours sleep makes for a better ride also.. Sleep, what is that? |
:o A good recipe that I learned is oatmeal with a little bit od peanut butter!! Taste GReat

If I'm taking the long way into work I usually eat on the bike. Usually a banana or two and a Clif bar. Sometimes a toast and jam sandwich. I know it's not trendy, but the high carb/low fat way works best for me.
Tried putting coffee in my water bottle but I ended up dribbling it all over myself. It's bad enough having the freshman stripe up my backside without having brown spots on my front as well! |

Oatmeal is definitely one of my faves, especially at this time of year. I also like Barley Plus cereal. My fave cold cereals are Rice Krispies and Cheerios!
I don't eat a lot of eggs, but yes, eggs with salsa-love it! Or 2 eggo waffles. or a bagel. And yep, copious amounts of coffee (although I'm cutting down on that). |
