Measuring metabolic rate?
Is there an easy way to measure metabolic rate? I am pretty sure that biking increases my metabolism. I want to know by how much.

Best way is of measuring resting metabolic rate is still through indirect calorimetry by measuring the oxygen you consume. There is now a hand held device called Medgem that can do it quite accurately.
You would have to go to a facility that has it. For 75 american dollars (the price of a pair of sneakers) you can go to any Health South Physical therapy center and get it done. Your insurance might even pay for it.

You can always call around to the local universities and see if they are doing research studies in their kinesiology department (or sport physiology department) where they are testing for metabolism in the manner that cbhungry described. If they are, you can usually get it done for free- they just want the study results, so they pay for the cost of doing the test on you.
I did this once and got a wealth of info for free from my university. It was great.
