Tale of Two Centuries

I did the second of the 5 projected "fall" centuries today. First was last Sat. Both were in 90F temp with 90% or so humidity.
Terrain similar, last week a bit flatter. In both centuries I suffered a sag at the 55mi mark. However last week my fluid consumption over the 74mi completed was 86oz, this week it was 175oz at 93 mi. (I skipped a short loop because of concern over my 55mi sag). Last week I was on my road bike, this week on the bent, which weighs about 8# more. Felt terrible for a while particularly about 60mi point last week and bailed, sagged to the 89mi rest stop and then biked the last 12mi, with some distress. Today I recovered to almost normal by 60mi and finished the last 33mi at a higher ave speed than the previous 30mi. On only one other century can I recall exceeding 140oz, but it clearly made a big difference in my level of comfort. Also the number of bladder breaks. About half of the fluid today was gatorade. Those of you who do centuries might want to keep track of oral intake and compare intake to how you feel. Steve
