I have been teaching my 6th graders about that muscle! You don't hear it mentioned much.

Umm im 5'6, 5'7ish 16 years old and float from 120-125 pounds which is very, very light. At one point before i took up biking serious i started to move past 125 -- had stopped playing tennis and excercising altogether and i just didn't look or feel the way i wanted to. I've found that on a stationary recumbant bike i do the hardest set resistance i can maintain for 40 minutes while watching televi to keep my mind off the strain.

When im done with that, ill immedietly move on to some ab excercises, namely reverse situps, regular situps, situps with one leg crossed over the over to one side, then to the other (so in total 4 different ab excercises, 20 reps per set). Ill repeat that until basically i've felt like i've really accomplished a good workout (which varies day to day) and then i'll really feel good for the rest of the day.

I am TRYING to lose 10 lbs, but it is SLOW. 6'2" 195 at the moment. I guess I added it over many months, so taking several months to lose it is the answer. I know I am adding muscle and losing fat, but the hard part is trying to eat sensibly but also eat enough for the longer rides.

It's maddening! Any suggestions other than patience?

Yes, eating is the problem for a lot of us. I enjoy a good meal, but I am trying to cut back in the evenings. My goal for weight loss this season is 30 pounds. I'd be happy with 20, but that would probably motivate me to go for the other 10. Best -

I'm around 175 lbs now at 5'7" and I'd like to hit 150lbs or better while massively increasing endurance and strength. A 10-12% BF would be nice. No weight training except for some bodyweight based exercises: dips, chins etc which I hope to start as soon as I figure out how to build a decent dip station. Eating properly is going to be the hardest part.

June just started and I figure/hope I can lose about 5lbs a month conservatively if I train hard.

My homemade dip bar made out of Home Depot pipe, fitted to the adjustment holes in my Body Solid power cage, and supported on the left with one of the safety bars. Perhaps this will give you an idea? I.e., if you don't have a power cage, the front of the bar could be attached to a 2" x 4" about 3 feet long with some sort of hinge/pivoting device and lag bolted into wall studs, the bar could be folded against the wall when not in use, and you could use a set of 2" x 4" boards with a hole in each to support the free ends while you are doing dips, and then it could fold away. Just an idea.

Markedoc: Best advice I can offer is eating right. Fruits and vegetables not fast food. Very hard to do, but it does work.

ions: I am looking for your present weight now , 5'7" myself. Last time I weighed 150, I was a sophmore in HS. My build is not conducive to 150, I asked my doctor. Good luck on your goals!!

I'm 85kgs (~185lbs?) and 5'7 tall. I'm now at roughly 15% body fat, which is a far better way to measure, since it can deal with weird builds, like my own.

I'm not training to lose fat, but it's happening as a side effect of various cardio I'm doing, which suits me just fine

My current goals are to keep up the road biking, sailing, climbing and running that I'm currently doing, and get a chance to do some XC or light DH riding too. No time

I figure what I'm going to do for the Dip/chin station is basically replicate a power station like in the pic only using wood. I figure 4 4x4s spaced appropriately apart with holes drilled for thick dowels or pipe to be used as handles. If I can design it well It should be a standalone unit that is easily assembled/disassembled and adjustable. Going to scope out the Home Depot tomorrow and start planning.
