What now?

After what started out as my best year ever I now have a broken wrist and a cast for 5 weeks. I can ride the trainer but I am not suppose to work up to much sweat so it looks like zone 1 or 2 rides, The question I have is when I can ride again where do I start?is it back to base miles or can I jump back to some intervals? I was doing lots 0f hill work when it happened will workouts in the gym help keep some strengh or would it be a waste of time? thanks for any help.

Sorry to hear about your wrist. I hope you heal up soon!

Best advice for re-starting your normal training routine is to start soft and gradually transition back to your normal pattern. You will probably lose a little bit, but noticeable, amount of leg strength and possibly some fitness, but both will return shortly after getting back on. Continuing Z1/Z2 base cycling is a very good idea.

Good luck!

Bikes: Diamondback entry level.

Try the indoor spinning bike to keep the legs conditioned. Don't put any pressure on the wrist until cleared by the doc. We all take our wrists for granted till something happens but they can really scream out when sprained, fractured etc. Give it plenty of time, tell yourself that your cycling is long term and this interruption is just a small blip.
