as a former bodybuilder i always used optimum except for when i got ready for a show i would use isopure. but optimum is a straight-forward protein with little fluff. 100% whey and pro complex chocolate and rocky road mix well in water and taste good. strawberry is ok as well but it's better in milk. as for vanilla, don't mess with any vanilla whey's. if you do, i would recommend using as close to whole milk as possible to help the taste. but really, it's a cup of water and a scoop of whey. slam it down...

i don't think salmon is mercury-free. it might have less than tuna, but it is a predatory fish, and we're talking biological magnification here.

Whey protein is a byproduct of certain types of dairy production, and dairy (milk) is the product of what are essentially evolved sweat glands... just sayin.

Maybe you should do that hemp thing, or foods you already like.

They have flavors if you want them, I get it plain. It mixes well and is pleasant.
I'll second protein factory, it's top quality stuff. Their Anabolic Cream tastes really good as well.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I buy vanilla because you can use it as a base to mix other things.

For example: Shake recipes:

2 Cups Water
1/4 Cup Apple Juice
Cinnamon
Protein powder

Tastes like Apple pie
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
1 3/4 cup water
1/4 Orange Juice
1/4 milk
Protein powder

Tastes like a Crème Pop
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2 Cups of water
fresh fruit of choice
Protein powder

My favorites are fresh strawberries and blueberries
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2 Cups of water
Protein powder
Real Coco

Great Chocolate shake

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

2 Cups of water
Protein powder
½ banana
Teaspoon of all natural peanut butter
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I used Pro MR, but it does have carbohydrates in it. Mixes well and is thin. I hate protein shakes that are thick like pancake batter. https://www.propeptide.com/products/promr.html

I also like the taste of the proteins at BioTest. They have some of the better flavor technology. I hear great stuff about their quality also. https://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_store.

I like to throw almonds and brazil nuts into a blender with a banana and some water blend that up into a drink and make sure to take some kelp pills if you eat allot of nuts as they deplete iodine.

Why worry about mercury levels? I thought this was nothing more than media hype proven wrong a couple years ago. I eat fish about 5 times a week.
