Recovery Ideas...?

So here is the deal. I just completed a small 'peak' phase of my training program-finishing to Time-Trials on back-to-back weekends (May 15-tapering-May 21) Then I begun a new 'Climbing' building phase for some Hillclimbs this summer..starting with Force and Strength Production. Only problem is that I had to go out of town from the 26-29th and had no days on the bike or workouts (it was a very hectic period) I got back on this Mon and figured that the natural 'soreness' and 'out-of-it' was just because of me being stale from not riding for four days. While Today's venture was considerably 'better'..I still don't feel right..and still feel stale and actually SORE! I can't imagine why, as I have a good food regiment with diet and it has been steady and constant..plus I take EAS recovery drinks etc and drink plenty of water.

So my question is; have any ideas on why I'm feeling this way..I don't want this fatigue and soreness to cut into my new training block and I want to get my 'Legs' back underneath me as soon as possible. Help!!!

I don't think that recovery drinks are going to make a difference. Time off usually makes my legs feel poorly. Airline travel (or extended drives) do as well. Sitting still that long makes the legs stiffen up. There's not much to do about it except ride. More rest won't help, and no supplement will either.

Keep riding, it'll come back. Sometimes the dead legs feeling does not translate to your actual performance- I've turned in a good time in long hillclimb races after a 10 hour drive the day before. My legs felt bad but worked ok.

Well that does reassure me a little. lol Yeah, as I mentioned, right at the end of my ride today..my legs were slowly starting to feel better..so maybe a sign of things to come. I was sitting for a long time during those four days..so as you said, had plenty of time to stiffen right up. Do you think 'Detoxing' perhaps with some herbs and things...plus drinking plenty of water..will help flush my system and get it back to balance..or should I simply rely...as you said..getting back to my routine..and doing my rides?

Just an Update; The day I last posted (May 31st) was the last day I felt that way. I feel great now and actually more 'with it' than ever. Had an awesome day of training today and feel I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks for the tips guys!
