Suggestions for winter training, intervals and basic cardio
Hi, All
I've recently decided to get serious about biking as an activity, rather then as something I did in high school to get to friends houses' before I had a car. I'm looking for some information about basic interval training routines and other cardio techniques that a bike can be used for. Hopefully you can share some generally accepted processes or what works best for you.
I have just been given a trainer to use with my bike as winter is fast approaching, so I'd like to build a solid base of fitness up to be ready for next spring. I looked over the sticky addressing this subject and found it inspiring, but would like a little more depth of information. Hopefully I can use something I've always enjoyed to lose the spare tire I've somehow managed to pick up over the years. Thanks for the help everyone!

base miles now, sufferfest on the trainer over the winter. there are lots of books about building training plans (friel, carmichael) and there are lots of places to buy plans (trainingpeaks, sufferfest, carmichael). essentially they mostly say to do a couple of interval sessions and a couple of longer steady-state sessions per week.
get a heart rate monitor to go with the trainer.

reducing the spare tire is going to need attention to diet, you can't do it with exercise alone. sorry. lots of web sites to help track calories - loseit, myfitday, sparkpeople.
