Love to see some examples of where we violated the fair use doctrine. Might help to give us a better feel for it. Or would that be too close to calling out individuals?

I think most of the issues get cleaned up pretty quickly.

But one example would be posting a quote from a website, book, or journal without providing the bibliographic details.

Another example that pops up now and then is where people post a long (multi-paragraph) exerpt of an article ... and especially if that article is from a site which requires a password or payment to access the information.

Carbon, Imma go ape-college-crazy on you and start citing my works. I'm going to do a whole bibliography, just like for my 60 page summary thesis, with my 10 page works cited.

That's right! I'm always been really careful to never quote myself, only post links. But you're gonna do it right. Op cit yourself! Funny, none of the Powers-That-Be bothered to point anything out that anyone had done wrong. Myself, I couldn't think of an instance off-hand. But from now on, every time I quote James Madison, I'm gonna provide a link. You too, beautiful.

I'm gonna cite the Constitution, then cite all 40 signers! And I'm gonna link it back to George Washington's grave, Mt. Vernon, VA. And when I cite myself, I'm going to use APA format and cite back to my original comment and provide the link. Then, I can't sue myself. Because I'm crazy like that.

Seriously.

Live dangerously! Carpe diem!

The instances in question get deleted.

And one of the offenders has since been banned.

Most of the copyright violations occur in P&R. The forum has had legal issues pop up so we're being more diligent in enforcing the guidelines.
