Injury icing?

I've been told that gel packs don't get cold enough for thorough icing, and was wondering what most of you use when an injury arises? Other than simply using a bag of ice, do any of you use frozen vege's or anything else that can just be thrown back into the freezer for it's next use?

How long do you typically ice; 10, 15, 20 minutes???

i use the gel packs and i would have to agree that they do get warm quick after a few minutes.i ice for about 20 minutes.if you want to re-ice,wait another 20 minutes then ice again.

I've used a bag of frozen peas on occasion, but they don't seem to be as cold as ice either. Beware of freezer burn with the ice! (Sadly, I speak from personal experience on this one.) Keep the ice on for no longer than 15-20 minutes at a whack.

Make sure you NEVER make direct contact if you use ice, put it in a plastic bag, then wrap in a towel. I would say use ice, the defrosting a re freezing of vegtables can make them go bad. Also ice packs dont stay cold for that long.

20 on, 20 off, repeat as necesarry.

I have a medical ice bag with some type of gel in it. Maybe 12x18". Good for molding around your leg etc.
