Post Race Blues
For the last 5 months I've been training rigorously for an oympic distance triathlon which I did on Sunday. Now that it is over I'm feeling kind of down. My training had focus, I had a reason to suffer, cut calories, endure long workouts, etc...
I guess I just have to sign up for another event. I mean the season just started right?
As the saying goes: lots of fish in the sea!

No reason to just train for one race. Sign up for another. Last year was my first year and I only raced 3 times with much time between each race. This year I'm racing once sometimes twice a month with a few A races picked out. The others are B races of course where I won't be so focused on time/pace. I had a lot of fun racing so I figure I'll throw more races mixed in with my training this year.
Go race!!! Have fun!!!

You didn't train for that race, mate: you trained for the season and just peaked for that race! Book another, sharpish, and get stuck in!

I have heard of this before. Joe Friel wrote about ironman finishers who feel depressed after their great race, and have a lost feeling such as you described. He suggests scheduling a race that is about a 3 weeks to a month after their IM so they can keep focused after their recovery. Last year I raced 2, sometimes 3 races a month, not just tris but duathlons and road races and kept my 'high' going until august. At that point I was pretty burned. I'm changing up my races this year and focusing on the ones I enjoyed the most last year. Like tajss and andy have said, schedule another, or yet find one or two a month until the 'season' ends in your area and have at it!!!! PS: you are a lucky dog to have olympic distance events around your area this time of year!! =]
