Training on a ship?
I am in the navy. I am about to go underway for 3 months and wondering whats the best way to stay in shape?. I wont be able to swim but have access to stationary bicyles , treadmills and elliptical machines. Also there are plenty of weights. Thanks in advanced.

Set some goals to progress to. If you have an event or goal in mind for when you return, it makes all those workouts have a purpose, and makes them easier to stick to.

If you cant swim, but you have weights, use your head and think about the muscle groups you need to keep in shape. Like your triceps, lats, shoulders, back. Do core work, a strong core will help you get faster in all 3 diciplines. Also, you can do squats and other leg work to keep your legs strong. Use the stationary bike to spin on, it will keep your legs in aerobic shape, same on the treadmill.

Thanks for the qucik response. And espically for the guy telling me about what the treadmill is for. I dont have any events lined up. I am living in Japan and most of the tri's are in the spring and early summer. I should be back in Dec. I have access to an indoor pool when i return.

Here is a list of links. They are not Tri specific but they will keep you in a state of excellent General Physical Preparedness if you use the information.

Make sure you stretch if you're lifting the weights! I have been lifting regularly for about 6 months now but only jumped in the pool for the first time in a year not too long ago. It's amazing how tight my upper body is after swimming.
