Lost in bikers' world.

hello,I am in a triathlon club at sch. I want to buy a bike for commuting but for the long term I think I won't mind investing in a better bike just in case I decide to race.

Can any1 give me some tips on the kind of bikes I should get and the range of price I should be looking at?

I don't really know anything about bikes so any advice will be great.

And how much more I would have to pay for a custom made bike? I am 5'4 average build,so I don't think I need a special bike or anything but I am simply curious.

Thanks,Carrottan.
