alcohol consumption and training

I have been training pretty hard for the last 6 months and yesterday went over to a buddies house. he offered me a drink which was a daquerie banana and strawberry with sailor jerrys rum. well one led to about 10, between the 3 of us we drank a half gallon of 92 proof rum. anyway today i get up at 4:30 am probably still drunk some but went to swim practice where we did our usual 3500 yard swim and i noticed my muscles felt weird. I am wondering if this should go away quickly because normally i run in the evenings on the days i swim. this is probably the last time i am going to drink more than just one drink.

drinking dehydrats the body- flushes it of water and nutrients. you're probably just dehydrated.

rest up, drink your water- pop a vitamin, you'll be fine.

I've had some of my best training runs and rides while slightly hungover. I think I tend to punish myself for the previous nights sins a little more than I normally would.

Having said that, alcohol is not a very good fuel for workouts.

Drink some water. You'll be fine.

theres no doubt I was dehydrated, I was up all night drinking water. I still plan on running tonight even though my legs feel like crap, if it is too much I'll just walk I guess.

Thats AWESOME... your muscles felt weird cause you were still drunk.

Just hydrate. Maybe skip the run tonight...you are probably still foggy from the night before

according to one of my coaches a good night of drinking is one or two days of bad performance.

Last night I ran, only did 2 miles is all but it was better than nothing at all. I did however have alot of fatigue in my muscles. today I feel great though and am ready for spin after work. I know I won't be doing any drinking like that again for awhile.

Thats why most college teams have at least a 48 hour not drinking policy before meets or more depending on the program. I have swam more practices then I should have hungover from the previous night in college. Water and gatorade and a bagels is what I found to help recover in time to feel alright for the evening practice. Now I will drink and not worry about it although it is usually only 4 or 5. Then again I am not really worried about winning just the enjoyment.

exercise (of any type hint hint) also helps with the hangover in my experience. get that blood pumping and the endorphins flowing.

Well besides the obvious loss of a Man Card for drinking a drink with the words Strawberry and Daqueri in it you'll be fine.

Beer, wings, and twinkies is why I swim, bike, and run.

But today I did a triathlon and while passing a trailer some girl comes out and starts dry heaving while I was running. It was halarious.
