"Racing" a Hybrid
Hello All:
I'm doing my first Triathlon this weekend. I was planning on doing the race on the same bike I trained on Trek Multitrack 700. The bike has some Kenda 700 x 38c tires that are slick (with a few shallow cutouts ) in the center and have a bit of knobby thread on the sidewall. Would you recommend switching to new narrower tires for the race? What would be a good fit for the Araya PX-45 rims?

Thanks TriBob
My LBS recommended Michelin Dynamic 28x700. The are fairly slick and they are rated to 87 PSI. 28s because of the width of my rims and 87 psi due to the fact that I have single wall rims. He said these are the stock tires on the Giant Cypress SX.

I had a great time! I was shooting for 3 1/2 hours (1500m/28miles/10K) and made it about thirty seconds under my goal. On the swim I was nervous, the bike was fun, the run was a killer. I did a two or three bricks before the race but my legs didn't feel nearly as bad as in the first mile of the race. The new tires helped the old trek- in my mind a least. I averaged about 16mph on the bike over a very hilly 28 mile course.
So, I was pretty happy considering the only exercise I got before starting this quest was playing volleyball once a week. I took a week off and now I'm thinking about next year and getting down under three hours.
