Elation snatched from the jaws of disappointment

On Saturday I like to go cruising for yard sales. This morning I saw a sign for one and followed the arrow. Up hill to the end of the street and saw another bright green sign. Followed the arrow to the left. Up another big hill. Finally saw another sign. Up another big hill. Saw the last sign and pulled into the yard sale. BIG disappointment. It was lame. But on the way back I spotted 2 "deer", which isn't uncommon in this area. But they were not the right color. They were brown. And their antlers looked funny. I did a double-take and looped back and turned into the side street to get another look. They were caribou. I have never seen caribou within the city limits before, or anywhere for that matter. Elation snatched from the jaws of disappointment .

Most of the deer we see around here are right next to the 'possums...

Cool sight. We don't have anything like that down here bigger than a coastal whitetail. A big one will be around 150.

Somebody bagged a moose about 70 miles north of here this past fall while they were hunting for deer. Moose. In West-Central Ohio.

We've seen them in Boulder in the dead of winter when the snow in the mountains is deep and covering most of the forage, but never here in COS and certainly not this time of year.

My brother spotted a moose in northern New Mexico, just south of the CO border a few years ago. He contacted the Forrest Service and was told they were being reintroduced to the area.

The only caribou I ever saw was in Newfoundland. They tend to travel there in herds of 500 or so. Never heard of these loner caribou. Strange
