New Fuji Varsity E-bike prototype.

I finally got a second bike, and it was a gift. Fuji Varsity. A campus transportation e-bike prototype. Local fixemup operation had one of these sitting around taking up space after the prototype trial ended & the school that had a fleet returned them. 8fun hub motor still good. Throttle, controller/charger & battery were removed by Fuji techs at some point before I took delivery. No fenders, but there are fender mount points fore & aft. Dial-a-stiffness front suspension fork, with shock absorber seat post. Seat is a road/comfort hybrid, with polymer dampers instead of steel. 7 speeds with an oversized low 1st gear. Frame is a sporty pedal forward design. Quite comfortable, yet quick spinning in top gear. Front and rear mechanical disc brakes that need new pads.

Overall a great bike.

if I had to change one thing, I’d swap the longer chain for a belt, or add some kind of chain guide to keep it from flopping while shifting.

My repurposed BikeE2 tandem. Thanks to the long flat straight frame it was easy to convert into a cargo bike. I removed the rear seat, rear handle bar stem and the rear pedals. Built a frame from aluminum angles to hold two sets of SunSeeker recumbent racks and a wooden bed.
On top of that I mounted two milk crates and cooler I had sitting in my garage. These can be easily removed. It works great and and with the rear air suspension it rides great as well.

Hey Thanks Percist :) I really dont drink that much beer. No trailer plans yet but you never know. Right now at 85 lbs on rear rack(s) front wheel comes off the ground, squirrelly riding at best. Hence front rack for weight distribution, old hats like Bek already know this;) (and still break frames!) Donna, I thought the Burley flatbed was made for U of O students to haul kegs around:p update: completed 5 sep 2007

I never thought much of having more than a couple bikes--that is, until one day when I decided I needed to move 100# of sand. I put one 50# bag in my backpack, and another on the rear rack of my '99 Raleigh M80. Very squirelly, I could hardly steer the thing. After that I dove deep into frames, doing lots of research to learn which ones did well with heavy loads. The main result of that was a recently finished '88 Schwinn High Sierra, and when I got it together I loaded the rear panniers with about 100# of metal stuff to see how it would do. The result: success. Heavy for sure, but the bike could do it. Steering was not a problem.

Also, beautiful rack. I'm assuming (with good construction, as yours appears to have) that the lower density wood would make a much stronger rack than one of aluminum or steel, given the same weight. The thicker cross section for the same weight should have a much higher resistance to bending/flexing.

Think That I’m Done Now

Found out that an 11-40T 9-speed cassette would work on my RANS Stratus XPC without having to replace the classy XT crankset with one featuring a smaller outer chainring, only had to install the derailleur extension and was good to go. Well, did have to file down the B-tension stop at the bottom of the dropout to get the extension to fit over it, was lucky enough to have a tungsten carbide grinder bit on hand.

Now should be able to haul a decent load up even the steepest of hills around here.https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...810a1c54_c.jpg
