Sweet.. What make is that? I see it has a derailleur on it is that a customization or did it come stock with it?

Canadian built CCM... all original with a 6 speed (Suntour) drive which makes it quite capable and was all original as of yesterday.



Replaced the derailleur with one that was not bent, added new brake levers, Kool Stops up front (it has a roller brake in the rear), and replaced the cables and grips as well as the shifter (with a Suntour half ratchet).

Bike seems to have been stored for many years as it had a thick coating of dust and not a lot of visible wear... was thinking of replacing the front fork with a 26 inch and a 26 inch alloy wheel since I have these parts on hand.

Thought being that a little more rake and trail as well as a bigger front wheel and a v brake would really improve the ride, handling (would add a little more trail), and braking which is quite decent considering the steel front wheel and so so brake caliper.

Did a little more to the trike today... fitted a new fork and a 26 inch Mavic front wheel as well as V brakes.

Really improved the ride and handling and was even able to ride it no handed on smooth pavement and the bike now stops on a dime and gives back a nickel in change.

I'm debating getting a kickstand to make it easier to load. DH thinks it would fall over while I'm loading it so that could be a problem. Definitely going for baskets to replace the panniers.

With the new improved dual drive the Shasta is a pretty capable flatland hauler... my P20 is still the better tow vehicle by virtue of it's wider and lower gear range and spins up quicker.

On the plus side...the Shasta is one of the nicest riding bicycles I have, frame is stiff, and the wheels are really solid.

First time `ve seen der gears on a trike. Like it. Just today me and my physiotherapist agreed that there is not enough trikes around for peopel who need or want them.

I've been slowly building up my townie conversion to be more utility friendly. I recently picked up this trailer for my dog, and bigger hauls that cannot fit on the front rack.

Would/could someone/anyone tell me what the round, red gadget is in this pic? I assume it's some sort of electric generator? And, would that be a battery pack or what in the square, black box above it?

Do a search for "Stoke Monkey" - think that is how it is spelled. Electric assist, one of several used on cargobikes.

Great looking bike! I started using a trailer more often for my 26 kg dog (instead of "Dogbike2") since he can jump in and out when I tell him to without me having to help him in and strap him up like on the Dogbike. Only problem is he wants to sit as far in the front as possible in the trailer putting too much weight in the front. I am thinking of installing the child seat backwards to create a small room for luggage in the front (now he tends to sit on it..) and to keep him away from the front. Is yours better behaved?

Welcome newbee! I like the rack on the Batavus. Just bought one (rack) myself on holyday in Copenhagen. Struggeled to install it wo messing up gear wires and brake wires..

Rode the Yuba to work in Yokohama this morning, and later, enjoyed a lunchtime ride along the waterfront.

I give bike tours along this stretch on the weekends.

The skateboard is the actual seat (with the option of putting a normal seatpost and seat if wanted).

58cm, 26" wheel LHT
Topeak rear rack, CETMA front (under the toilet paper)
Ortlieb motorcycle panniers converted to bike panniers with Ortlieb hardware
1x7 drivetrain using old SunTour parts in friction mode
Civia bars and stem (steerer tube still uncut pending more experiments)
Schwalbe Big Apple tires 26x2.0

It's great for all sorts of stuff, and looks dorky enough that I can commute on it and leave it locked up all day with no threat of someone stealing it.

Thanks! My dog was doing the same thing on the first couple of rides, I think he felt more secure up front, with more to see. Now that he is accustomed to the trailer, he usually just lays down until he sees another dog lol.
