It's not the actual act of hauling that is amazing here, but how the heck did he get all of those tires up that high and keep them balanced before he even started pedaling?!?
Holy cow, did you some other pictures there? |

Dayum Bubba, them Asian folk don't screw around. Makes most of us and our loads look like amateurs.
Well, most of us are amateurs. They make all of us "look like amateurs".

things to say to the bike driver.
I want the one on the bottom. I want a nickles worth I believe the pix is staged by an artist. too many elements come together for it to be just a snap shot. where do you find a street with so little traffic. That shot deserves to be in a "mu- z- em then you don't" |
It is photo shopped... the stack of tyres does not cast the same shadow as other objects in the image.
I was suprised at what type and loads hauled on bikes & mopeds back in the '60s in s.e. asia.
I don't think so. If someone had enough skills and determination to do this they'd have though about the shadow. I think it's just diffused, he may be under a cloud; no direct sunlight.
I don't have a problem with the shadows.
I do find that first image of the set almost too perfectly composed. That is not a complaint. I think its a marvelous picture. The two bicycles at opposing angles with that monolithic, yet almost gothic building on the far side of the wall is great. The limited palette of colors is also very strong and almost stylized. There is a theme running through the pics of bicycle, wall and then massive buildings behind. He's a talented guy. And props to those pedaling those amazing loads. I'd hate to have to push one of those bikes into a headwind. |
Agree. Its chopped.
Wow, makes me feel bad for cursing out my 10lb tub of kitty litter sliding around the trailer on my local hills today in the wind....
Dunno if the pictures are photo shopped or not, but they do look like they have been tweaked for color and some content. However the loads in question are not out of the ordinary in many parts of the world.

How could two bike tires support most of that load? What could the pressure possibly be?
The creations were published in Déclic Photo ( a French photography publication).
http://www.declicphoto.fr Here is the PDF which shows the images along with text (in French) http://www.alaindelorme.com/PDF/declicphoto.pdf In the pdf, many, if not most of the images, have clearly been modified. |
Shopped or not (i'm still downloading the PDF) they're cool pictures. But something doesn't look right in them. Even if they're shopped they're still good art I think, as long as the creator doesn't try to pass them off as untouched photos.

Photoshopped, enhanced, or untouched, my favorites are the florist (Totem #8) and the (looks like) food or drink cases (Totem #4). They're simply beautiful.
Personally I like the clothesline in the background...
In that picture of the tires, the rider seems perfectly clean and non-sweaty. Having handled my share of tires through the years, I can't imagine getting them all stacked up like that without looking like a mess yourself. So yeah, makes me wonder if the pictures weren't staged. Reminds me also of the camper tricycle, where the project as a whole was in fact a photo project.

I haven't seen the PDF, but I also believe these were photoshopped. I saw these pictures on urban velo or some other blog not too long ago. At first, I was in awe. After further inspection, I felt robbed.
The one with the flowers would be impossible. It seems obvious to me. What are the flowers on the top sitting on? If they were sitting on the flowers below them, every plant would be ruined and squished. The picture with the guy on foot carrying the trailer seems photoshopped too. With all of that furniture behind the axle, the trailer would be sitting with the handles in the air. Since the guy would weigh less than the weight on the rear side of the trailer, he couldn't tilt the trailer down, even if he was the strongest person on earth. It's physics! Regardless, the pictures are really cool, and they make me wonder exactly how far we COULD go with carrying cargo on bikes. |
wtf? tires?
the remind me of pictures my grandma has in hear bathroom. they look like paintings to me. some of those loads would be impossible to move even if you where able to load them.
lol I thought those pics were real! but definitely fake.
It's funny to me that we use pseudonyms and avatars to represent ourselves in this forum, but delight in calling the photo a "fake". Of course it's not real. It's an image.
