So I was crusing home today on my Worksman front loading tricycle, hit about a 2" diameter stick in the road and lost it...not exactly sure what went on, but the net effect was that I laid the tricycle over on its side, with minimal damage to me or the trike, but with considerably wounded pride.

However, an important lesson was learned. If you have a cargo bike, trike, or trailer that is basically a big tub, and you load a bunch of loose stuff in there, and then somehow have a minor wreck, all that stuff is going to be dumped out on the road, where it will go bouncing and rolling down the road or off the road at whatever speed you were traveling at the time. So, to the maximum extent feasible, put everything in closed larger bags, rather than loading it loose or just in open-top bags.

It was dark, and I was too exasperated to take any pictures. I passed some really pretty Christmas lights just after that, and didn't even stop to photograph them. And fortunately, this was not a major road, so traffic wasn't running over me or my stuff. And nobody was pointing and laughing.

i learned a similar lesson with power boats. don't just throw your junk in the boat and take off. secure it, or wind & waves will soon scatter it for you. hopefully most of it stays in the boat.

then i re-learned it canoe-camping. waterproof bags & tie it into the canoe or it's gone.

No need for wounded pride. Everyone who rides enough, goes down on occasion. Oddly, for me it typically seems to happen with lots of people around to watch.
