Looking for advice on winter project.

I have just started looking into the BOB vs flatbed research and would like to get some feedback from the wild. Especially those that have both.

Most of my riding will be trekking type on back roads and bike lanes. I understand the basic advantages of each choice and a flatbed looks to do more for most of my riding but I really like that a BOB will tag along anywhere my bike will go. I also like to explore hiking and game trails, where a BOB would shine.

So my real question for those of you in the wild is a flatbed that much more useful in every day life that a BOB is a luxury?

Also I found this BOB (check link below) that from user reviews can be a nice BOB answer for under $100 if you are willing to do a few upgrades (winter project). Is there a better BOB answer in this price range?
