Well I think the beater MB is ready to go. I've got it all tuned up except for the broken FD shifter. I just rigged that to stay on the large chain ring. The studded Conti tires are working well and handled sleety icy roads just fine this morning and then some patches of snow on the afternoon ride. Installed a set of Planet Bike fenders today and they clear the tires just fine. Had to rig the front a bit as there was no where to secure the one side. Nothing a tiewrap couldn't handle. Only issue is the saddle soaked up a good bit of water this morning. Love to here suggestions on how to fix that problem. This afternoon I just wrapped it in a plastic bag. I have a Magicshine lamp for the front and a blinkie out back. I've also covered a good bit of the rear with red reflective tape as all my weekday rides end in the dark. I just curious to see how well things stay working this winter. Don't know if the V brakes will let me down or if the fenders will ice up in real snowy conditions.

Oh and the Fox Wear jacket I just got is terrific. Very warm, water resistant, and handles wind just fine. When I got home this morning it was covered in tiny dropplets of road spray and mud. I shook it all and how it looks brand new, cool!

I just carry a small plastic grocery bag with me and wrap the seat with it when needed. You can cover both the top and bottom of the seat and then tie it around the seat post. I suppose you could keep it there while riding if necessary but it will be kind of slippery.

Sound familiar, I do this already on my road bikes because I use Brooks Leather saddles. This is exactly what I did on the afternoon ride except it was to keep the water from the wet saddle soaking into my tights again.

My v brakes let me down yesterday but mine are usually fine. I've never had a problem with the fenders icing up.

The grocery bag works great, for added protection and to keep the bag from ripping I also use an Aardvark Waterproof saddle cover on top of the plastic bag. The bag keeps water from splashing underneath from the wheels, and the saddle cover keeps the bag from slipping, ripping, and better protection from water leaking through the top.

I use a plastic bag to cover the seat. It doesn't look good, but it works.

I had a fender issue this morning. My front fender doesn't fit well and gets really tight near the top. I had an ice chunk come loose from inside, and get flung up into the small gap between the tire and fender. The front wheel locked up, and down I went. Something to watch out for I suppose.
