Frozen brake

I wasn't talking about the cables in particular though. Same type of cables in my case. I've haven't had cables freeze on me this winter. I should thank my LBS since they must have put some good lube on them. I find the disk brake more reliable because it picks up less water and snow then the rim does which is most noticeable when riding in snow or slush.
