Runny nose during the cold ride-suggestions

After about 10 minutes of riding in the cold, my nose gets runny. It's almost like a nose bleed when it starts, but it won't stop until I get warm again. I have and wear a Seirus face masque every time I ride in the the cold, but that doesn't prevent the runny nose. The fluid from my nose tends to run down and soak into the masque and that's just disgusting. What are your tips for keeping my nose from getting runny?

Thanks,

Josh

I'm constantly spitting and clearing nostrils during my winter rides. I don't think there is anything that can be done about it. Its a little more unpleasant on days like today as I was wearing my respirator. Everything that comes out of my head runs out the exhaust valve and onto my top tube, jacket, pants.

Blowing "snot rockets" while riding is a gross, but convenient option.

Excess tears drain into your nasal cavity, making your nose run. Weird. It's the "Nasolacrimal duct".

Wraparound sport glasses help somewhat to reduce the tears by blocking the wind, and some BF riders have used ski goggles. For this tears caused runny nose, allergy medicines don't help at all. I still need to blow snot rockets regularly.

Interesting. I'll try that this morning and let you know how it goes.

Rode with ski goggles for the first time last week. Temps in the 20s, wind 10-25 mph. Definitely helped.

Don't blow, don't wipe. Don't snort unless you absolutely have to. If you snort don't spit.

Try it. I find that as the temperatures drop my nose "learns" to produce less runny stuff if I train it that it is not going to get wiped. After a few days or a week of dealing like this every day your body will change.
