Any good quality gore tex (or gore tex equivalent) rain jacket will be fine for your purposes. Just get it large enough so you can properly layer underneath it.

I started a thread along these lines; there are a number of really great responses, https://www.bikeforums.net/winter-cyc...er-riding.html

I ended up going with a piece I already owned which was a gore tex rain jacket and it's been great so far in the icebox I've been riding in. It's been well below freezing in IA even before you factor in the wind chill.

Performance Zonal is a great softshell buy at $90, and works for me around freezing temps with just my midweight bibs, a summer shortsleeve jersey, and fleeced armwarmers. When it dips into the teens, i use a fleeced winter longsleeved jersey, and that works fine.

I'm not a fan of Performance gear in general, but this has impressed me with materials, build quality, and features, all stuff Performance generally skimp on in order meet pricepoints (or margins).

Anyway, new Zonal II is out, but looks essentially the same as my older one, aside from minor graphics changes. I like the fold down tail flap which gives a bit of extra warmth to the fanny when it's really cold.

i'm selling my size small gore softshell jacket. its one of their lower priced jackets at below $150 retail. i'm a small skinny guy, and it is great with only a jersey underneath between 50 and 35 degrees F.
