can only bike in shorts…even in winter

anybody else have this issue? I ride roughly 25 miles a day, and cannot wear anything long. My legs turn into butter.I usually just deal with the <32 degree weather and ride as quick as I possibly can to get home.

Tried jeans, levi commuter pants, long bib, but I still go back to the cycling shorts with a pair of dickies on top.

also have been drinking a pre workout before I ride..c4. Think the stuff in this is adding to my suffering in the last 5 miles? the immediate caffeine rush is great but it does get me thirsty.

Are you wearing cycling shorts as* underwear, with normal pants?
This is perfectly normal.
Cycling in winter with bare legs may be something you live to regret.
Bare legs were fine when life was brutish and short, but we have to make our knees last longer now.

*instead of, not with.

Butter? I had drizzle turning to wet snow for 18 miles this morning. No bare legs for me. I like bike or running tights, works well, keeps my legs warm and working. Your drink is making you thirsty? Try gatorade or water, for starters. Pre ride? I call that breakfast. I had oatmeal with raisins, OJ and some coffee. YRMV.

I cover my legs in temps below 60 F. My knees take a beating in the cold if not covered up. I also don't understand your comment about legs turning to butter. I don't understand how tights would impair your legs. Do you wear shorts during the winter for street clothes?

Have you thought about trying cycling-specific attire? Like leg warmers or tights?

I get knee pain if my tights are too constrictive across the knees, but that's easily solved ... get tights that aren't so constrictive.

Still not sure what you mean by "my legs turn into butter" ... also not a clue what you mean by "a pair of dickies on top"

^^^ Dickies are a work type pant. Think blue or khakis that are a poly/cotton blend. Make for wear resistance and ease of stain removal.

Possibly not the best choice for cycling.

When I think of dickies, I think of a faux turtleneck.
