Also did prospect park Cat 4 race. Got 3rd in the field sprint. It got real sketchy in the last mile or so of the race. GA, any idea what happened in that crash in the last half mile? The first guy to go down fell into me but luckily I stayed up. Hopefully everyone is ok.

Barrio Logan cat 4's today. Race started off ok, I stayed in the upper half of the pack. After about 20-25 minutes in of chilling, some dude takes the turn into the uphill section, clips a pedal and goes down taking one more with him. The crash happened directly in front of me and the wheel I was on went down so I had to slam the brakes to avoid crashing. After trying to chase on for about 4 laps, the ref gave me a free lap and they pushed me back into the race with about 5-6 laps to go. At this point I was pretty bonked so I just sat in the rest of the time trying to move up a little but wound up finishing in the middle of the pack.

GrW -- move on when ready. I agree with WR, 3/4 is good at Driveway.
WR -- soon enough, the horizontal part of the seven will be gone from your place finish.
MattM -- coming around/back nicely!!
GA -- awesome, but, I've come to expect performances like that.
JustKeep -- shuhweet.
Creatre --
PJ -- well done; we await the report on the blog
Zitter -- no worries.

Squaw Creek Crit - Cat 3
Hilltop finish, which suits me pretty well. I won. 1st win as a 3, and now I only need 1 more point for a 2 upgrade.

squaw creek crit. 2 minute bike ride from my house so that was cool.
first race as a cat 4. my 5th race overall. got 9th out of 15 i think. couldnt handle a final attack made at the very end and rolled in last of our lead group. was a good experience though.

C-130 Hercules TT in Dover, DE. Started out the back of a C-130 Hercules (hence the name ). That was probably/definitely the highlight for me. Goal was not to blow up and I didn't. But was pretty slow. Great, well run event. Results TBC but expecting to be near the bottom of the pile.

What really surprised me is when Lou Waugaman tried to bridge after the break was almost a minute ahead. I guess he got to within 20 seconds. That guy is so strong, it's scary.

Ravensdale RR Cat 3's - only 55 miles, but it was cold and rainy. We had 7 guys in the field, and someone to ride for.
Glasses got so foggy & wet I had to take them off and just enjoy the spray. I guess that's what eyelashes are for right, to block dirt & water coming in your eyes?
Bridged to a few breaks, and also got on the front before the final turn to lead the pack through it, with our guy on my wheel. It was a wet 180-ish turn, and I overcooked it - felt the tires losing traction so had to take it really wide coming out, but got back on the front and kept hammering.
1 mile to go in the race and legs on fire, I dropped our guy off at the bottom of the hill with a little more than 1k to go. Detached then got back on until the sprint happened, then I watched it leave as my legs were on fire.
Another good day of racing, and our guy got 9th, a decent result. If we could just keep him rested more I bet we could get him a win!

Ravensdale RR Masters 30+ (4/5) and 50+ (open)
We started the race in a steady rain and it remained cold and wet throughout. I mixed it up in the sprint and had a pack finish, 16th place out of 62. We came in 11 seconds behind the winner who pulled away in the last mile. I had perfect position coming out of the final corner leading into the last mile (5th wheel with a strong cat 2 -- the winner -- and a cat 3 right in front of me) but I didn't quite have the legs or lungs to keep up on the hill leading to the finish.

Pittsburg Crit, E3. No teammates, not much in the way of legs, and a lot of wind. Took a couple of flyers, but I knew I did not have the fitness to stay away, especially with the 20mph headwind in the finishing straight. Mid pack finish.

The broken frame is my mountain bike. I'm going to call Salsa on Monday and see if they'll warranty it, which I'm hoping they will. If not I can get a crash replacement frame fairly cheap.

Bario Logan GP…got a teammate in the break, did some blocking, took 9th in field sprint which turned out to be 24th overall…yikes, big break, I should have been in it but i started the gap cause we had a teammate in it.
Lots of shenanigans in the race, I WILL NOT be doing anymore mixed Cat 3/4 races, I know there are exceptions, and some 4's know how to ride, but it's just to freakin sketchy.

Liberty road race 4/5/40+ field of maybe 30/40-ish
I actually got second in this race when it was a single-lap Tuesday night race. Oh what a difference an extra lap, a crap-load of wind and some 40+ riders make. The pace started fairly moderate with occasional surges, but picked up quickly when the masters got on front and started pushing it. The pack split and came back together several times. I was moving up to the front to make sure I’d be on the right side of any more splits when 12-15 guys who were ahead of me gapped the rest of the pack. After getting around some people, I went balls-out to bridge the gap and was just hitching onto the lead group as they were gong around a corner. As they sprinted out of the corner with a few miles left in the first lap, I had nothing, and ended up in a chase group of about 5-people. It took a little work to get people circulating… we never caught up. The second lab was brutal in the wind and rollers. We dropped some people and picked up some stragglers who fell off the group ahead. The 50+ pack passed us, which was demoralizing. Realizing we weren’t going to catch anyone ahead of us, and nobody behind us was even close, three of the five (including myself) sat up and spun out the last 8-miles while two other’s took of ahead. One was a teammate, I’m pretty sure the other was already disqualified when he tried to draft the 50+ official’s car and my legs were toast. There wasn’t much point in trying to follow them. I have no idea how many ahead were 4s and now many were masters… still waiting for the results.
My Data was all goofy because I forgot to put the GPS in bike mode:

Sterling Road Race, M45+, 55th, sunny, low sixties, a full field of 100 riders, a gorgeous day for a bike race. My teammate and I had talked about just trying to avoid the split and if we were in the front group at the end that I'd help him as he's a better climber than me. The first lap was uneventful. The short 11% climb wasn't hard, it was the pace on the long grade for the next few miles that would end up being my undoing. I got gapped from the front group on the second lap and decided to pull the rest of the group back up, with a national champion on my wheel. On the third lap I got gapped again right at the top of the grade. I chased for 10K or so, using the wheel trucks when I could but I could not get back on. I ended up latching on to the second group, got a lead out, and took the sprint.
It was a great day for the club, though. Took the Men's Cat4 and the P/1/2, and a 2nd in the Women's Cat4.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!
Wells B (3/4) race -- 4th, scooped at line by 3rd place finisher because of a lapse on my part. In the final sprint, I had my sights set on the win as I was chasing down 1 & 2. They were within reach and I was making some ground, but, not enough -- the extra gear is not quite there yet. At about 10 yards out, I let up a little, either because I saw that I would not get them or I misjudged the line (I like the latter reason as it is more "senior-moment"ish). So, an MIT rider no less snuck by me by inches to scoop 3rd.
Final sprint of 17" was at 784ap. The pace in the last 3 minutes was feeling decent and like I was coming around a bit, 271ap. Overall, the race pace was slow.
I came into the race feeling mushy; there was no spring and pop in my legs. The race helped to wake them up a bit. It is now the time of the season for me to advance my leg speed.
