i was pretty happy with the wind actually,s ince i was on a not-particularly aero setup, downhill headwind and uphill tailwind was the most neutralizing combo i can think of. hardly had any aero penalty coming back at all. i was watching my rabbit pretty closely, cuz i knew i had to put time in him to hold my GC spot and we were steady the whol way out (he was aero) but assoon as we turned around i started gaining on him quick and passed him half way and then demolished him on the short climb.

I read your race report. That's funny because I know the other guy who was with you and he's pretty strong. His whole team (Paramount) moved up to the front to block and cover attacks, so that's why I never made a move myself. I was waiting for someone else to bridge and do the work for me, lol.

Thanks a lot dude. I'm putting in my upgrade request today.

Long day today. I think I'm still suffering from being dehydrated yesterday, but it was a decent race anyways. I managed to pull out a few criterium tricks to move up the peloton before I pulled myself out.

Had an awesome night of racing at Greenbelt. Got another win. Didn't feel 100 percent when I was warming, but apparently I still had the legs. There were a few failed breakaway attempts as usual. It's a really difficult course to try and get away. I was sitting second wheel with a half a mile to go (slight uphill) on the last lap. The guy in front of me fades and pulls off. Crap. I have to make a split second decision to either make a move or wait for another wheel. I attack. I look back and I have a small gap on the field. I sprint as hard as I can. Few hundred feet to go and I start fading. A few guys are catching me. I was able to hold it just long enough to win by about half a wheel length.

Turned out to be the strongest hour of racing I've ever had (312 NP) and the last minute set a new power record with 667 watts.

I beat Joe Friel today in a TT.

Yeah.
That's right.

Bow to me.

No, but really, he showed up at the Boulder TT today. Being that he raced in the 60-70 cat, I only have total respect for him on how fast he went. Beating him is meaningless when he is that old and that fast.

CHIN Picnic (crit)

On the 4th lap my rear tire (ultremo r.1) blew off my rim (kinlin xr300) with a loud gunshot bang while taking a corner.

Ouch.
Bikes ok... No trust in that tire/rim combination anymore...
120 psi + hard cornering should NOT = tire blowing off

Blaahhh

Going back about 1 week:

WR -- swarm comes at 500, then 750, then near finish, then you win (or something like that in the next 2-4 weeks).

MattM - nice first 3 race

JohnnyHK - are you dry yet?

TheMudder - A budding Carl Sandburg?

Thx!

You're in France right? Didn't you mention riding around Paris?

When I was there they only bikes I saw were commuters/cruisers wearing fancy French outfits, carrying baguettes (literally)... where are the racers/roadies? See any of them out there?

Have fun!

Ha ha. Maybe in my own mind....without the widespread accolades and such.
....songwriting and word craft have been my "day job" for certain semi lucrative chapters in my life. just haven't broken into any mainstream yet....other than a few radio jingles.

thanks for the wicked nice compliment.

I saw a couple of racer folk on Saturday when I was heading out of town, but, yeah, mostly commuters in Paris. I've seen a few roadies here in the southern area of Normandy. Although, they are always going the opposite direction as me. I love the riding here!!!

Seward Park 3/4's training race. Tried to be in all the attacks, bridged to a few, started a few, none of them stuck though. The hill on the course makes it a little tough. Felt good at least, but wasted a lot of energy up front and didn't have "it" for the final go. Sat up in the final 200 since... well it's a training race and I was out of the top 10 anyway.

4 premes in the race, as usual, but they were all stacked in the last 5 laps! That made it kidna interesting.

Team mate (who's been racing for 10+ years) gave me good advice about sitting up front: "You gotta be there with a purpose. If you see an attack, cover it." I realize now I have a habit of just sitting in the top 10, but not taking advantadge of the position when the time is right. Experience is seeping in.

4/5 crit crashed with 4 to go. Free lap was 5 or more to go. Bike is fine scraped right shifter and rear derail just a bit body took most of it. It was due to a pedal strike in a corner (the pedal ground a fair amount off).

Missing skin on my right knuckles, shin and arm, but it protected the bike for the most part just need a right side re-tape.

When I got up the wheel was askew of the handlebars. I just put the wheel between my legs and made it straight. IS this ok or do I need to tighten something?

I am certainly learning my limits the hard way. But I was feeling good. I generally dislike crits because I started out really bad at cornering. I was much more aggressive in my turns and it really improved how I felt toward the end. Saved a lot of energy.

Prologue vuelta de la acadiana. 6 mi TT. 13:45. 25.2 mph with 3 turn-arounds. 328 W AP; 331 NP.
pacing broken into semi-quarters (pacing was not good). 1st and 4th quarter were a slightly longer distance.

3:06 @ 391W @ 28.3 mph (tailwind)
3:34 @ 314W @ 23.7 mph (headwind)
3:26 @ 285W @ 25.1 mph (tailwind)
3:43 @ 312W @ 23.9 mph (headwind)

I was about 5" off my 30" rabbit at the end. My mental game wasn't there in the last quarter. I should have caught him. I could have caught him. Pain made me a coward.
Will know results later today.

Mike Horgan Hill Climb SM4

hard 17 mile climb with extended 10% grades, dirt climbs, sketchy dirt descents

survived the first seperation, after that it was a long slow seperation into a lead group of 4 and me and 2 CU riders chasing for 5-7

really really hot on the climb thanks to a just enough tailwind to bake us in our shoes

CU kids dropped me on the dirt descent, i caught them pretty easily at the 1 mile to go, but figured i'd hang back a few meters and attack past them at about 1K.

saved up for the attack and crushed it. they didnt even have a response and i was still feelin good, came to a turnoff and i saw som folks straight up the road ahead and followed them, turns out they werent part of the ride and i was supposed to make the right turn.
oops.

turned around and i was right behind the CU guys, who were now hammering and didnt give me a second chance. i rolled in for 7th. which is a little disappointing, but still my best hill climb finish so far.

Result from above was 7th. 2 seconds would have got me 5th.... to be completely honest, i was expecting to do better. Crit is in a couple hours. gonna take a dump, pack up, and head over to warm up.

7th in the crit. I never felt good, and the crit was super super technical - not my strength. 5th in the GC right now, we'll see what happens tomorrow in a 64 mi RR.

Winter Race Series. 45km. 1hr 11 min.
"D" Grade.

rode okay to the turnaround. Got gapped but managed to get back onto the bunch. Hung on for grim death. managed to slot back into the rotation when the pace slowed somewhat. Happy to survive the last 7km in. Was in a good position out of the final turn. tried to wind up for the sprint. legs dead so I just rolled in at the back of the bunch.

Fastest ride I've done so far. Happy but tired.
