I was there today racing the Cat 5 30-45 group. My last race as a 5 - and the best (training) crit I have ever raced. Played up front the entire race, chasing down attacks and even getting into a short-lived break. Put myself on the left side coming out of turn 4 and sprinted for 3rd. I still think I'm a poor sprinter so I'll chalk it up to being a smarter racer.

Early Birds? That's worth 2 points, or mass starts. Keep a record and you'll get credit to your 4 upgrade.

As a first timer at a crit, the skills clinic that was put on was invaluable. The U30 race experience was split into 3 parts for me:
Part 1: Hang on for dear life bridging gaps until I got the hang of staying with the main group. I was just getting into that for 8 or 9 laps when
Part 2: Folks getting ragged in the group, heads dropping down a bit, bunch of riders go down a few rows up in the turn 2. I managed to avoid the wreckage and come to a stop without making contact with anyone.
Part 3: The fun part. Starting solo, I caught another rider and we pair up to take pulls. We reel in a 3rd rider and our 3man team makes it all the way round the remaining 4 laps trading pulls on each straight.
That last part was hard work, but a great experience. Crossing the line with my 2newfound team mates was a real unexpected bonus.

^^ in that situation, you can pull over and jump back in with the pack.

Good point; but I had fun with my noob solution to the situation anyway.

^Good job.
I did the Bring it On crit yesterday. B race, in a pouring rain. I made the mistake of letting the wrong 3 riders get away. Took the field sprint for 4th.

Hi,
So fordfasterr and merlinextraligh started the year off pretty well -- good job to both of you!
Did a TT today and was 6th in the Masters 50+. Not sure where all of the fast, old guys have been hiding. Wind was definitely not favorable and I was 48 sec slower than my course PR (set last Oct). I guess it's not bad for right after the holidays.

Update on the Winter series that I did in Nov-Dec 2009.... I drove up to Orlando 4 times for this and got 3rd place for the first 3 races, and then 7th on the 4th and totally missed the 5th race... however luck was on my side (call it consistency)....
I was:
3rd overall in points for the Drew Landing Criterium Winter Series of 2009!!! (B series, cat 4/5)
Thanks to everyone who was involved in the race organization, and to all of those who personally helped me.

The wind was 15-20 mph and only half could sustain it, and none were able to withstand the attacks from Ariel and I.

The ranking are useless. I have yet to figure out how they work since not all results are reported and some people just do more races than others... Who knows. At least, its cool to say you are #1...even if it is only temporary!
