HR Monitor...bar mounted computer style or watch style??

I am in the market for a HR monitor...should I do the computer style like a Garmin Edge 500? or the watch style like the Garmin FR 60? Pros/Cons? Thanks

is there any point in getting the HR/cadence 500 if you don't have a PM or garmin HRM?

It's still a bike computer that records your GPS waypoints and elevation, and you can plug the data into a number of programs and web sites.

Whether that's worth the cost is another issue.

I would go with the Edge as well unless you also run. If you decide to get a power meter down the road it is ANT+ compatible and the screens are much easier to read while cycling than the Forerunner or equivalent watch.

The edge; I've seen reviews that said it worked pretty accurately with running as well.

I don't know, because I don't know how the runners carried the Edge with them. They just claimed they ran with it.

OP, I believe that the the Forerunner 310XT is the "Edge 500" of the Forerunner series. You can take a look at a comparison here: https://blog.nuclearbunny.org/2010/12...-and-edge-500/

I mounted a Polar watch on the bar right next to a Shimano Flightdeck. A little ingenuity made it work for my 26.0 bar. (The extra bit hanging off the Polar mount is a light attachment...)

Then I upgraded to a Garmin Edge 500 ... a lot cleaner, sleeker having an all-in-one system.
