Thou art wise. No more road races in 2013 for me after tomorrow. Cyclocross and the Mayor's Cup.

Awful ZCIs yesterday. First two weren't great, third I missed the target, towards the end started feeling cold and rubbery, wanting to vomit and cry. Tried to start the fourth and couldn't even get to the target. Endurance felt like threshold, tempo felt like VO2. It was bad. Took me about 15 minutes to recover. Managed to roll home.

Not sure what happened. I had a hard ride Thursday, but not crazy. Possibly didn't eat or drink enough, I got really hungry when I crashed and wolfed down the bar I had. It was also really hot, so that might've had something to do with it.

Been there....too many times. If I can get kinda close to my power bogie (i.e., threshold or so), I'll continue. If I can't get there, I pull the plug. I think it's the joy of getting older and being an amateur. Sometimes it's just not happening and when that's the case, you might as well just be honest with yourself, take a day or two of rest, and live to fight another day.

Last week on the team mock-race, I had absolutely crap legs...just no gas at all. Ended up riding in alone. Today I was feeling good and everyone else peeled off early. Ended up riding in alone. I'm noticing a trend here.

I did my first ever set of ZCI like intervals today. I don't know how you guys can focus on the power meter display. Breakfast almost came up at the end of each. I followed it up with 30 minutes of tempo and a set of all out sprints.

Im about to head out the door for a nice 3-3.5 hr ride. Plan is to keep it steady and hit it hard over some of the fun sections of road in the second half of the ride, maybe throw in some sprints at the end

Went out and did a 7 mile TT. My glutes and like upper inside hamstring area muscles were hurting a lot still from Thursday. That plus a bad warmup caused some pretty bad times. Then went hard on the hills and some flats. Finally got a brake from the heat though, back to normal temps again.

You beat me. I did 768. I'm sticking together kind of a mini-base phase. I'm at something like 14 hours/265 miles for the week and about 21/400 for the last 9 days. I've got 2 days of riding left, then a work trip.

Took a lot of mental prep to get on the bike this morning. I felt very tired on Sat but when I woke up in the morning I felt great.

Next week is the same thing...at least tomorrow is rest day lol.

the jersey comes in a nice sweat color for the TSS competition, shovel.

This morning for me actually wasn't too bad. Up early (as I do on weekends) and out the door about 6. I hit a bike trail and just turned the pedals. Z2 heart rate / level 2-3 power.

I do days like today with no food, at least to start. I did have a quick cup of black tea. My water bottles had some aminos, but no carbs. About 900 Kj / 75 minutes in I had a almond butter sandwich and about 45 minutes later I had a small flax/carrot muffin (that was _way_ too old...this was the only way it would taste OK). So I did fade some at the end, but ultimately had a good ride. Something like 2:30:30 total time and 2:29:30 riding.

I really do think that rides like these help with training your body to burn fat. I guess this is part of my 12-hour race training.

This spring and summer have been *ass* (can I say 'ass' here?) in terms of training and any rhythm to life.
I've had good results out on the track (racing with a brain mostly), but with only 1 or so training sessions per week, I had mostly given up on my pre-season goal of track nationals. I talked to my coach, and we agreed that I should do some fitness tests so assess where I was, then decide if it was worth putting time & energy into making nationals.

Yesterday I set several new power records, and not by a little bit. Funny, I haven't been training, and my "rolling effort" bits of track racing have been generally in the range of sub-30' per race night, 1x per week.

So, training here I come. The last few days have been good, but it's time to address a huge bugaboo in my life - nutrition.
I struggle with nutrition in more ways than I can reasonably express - eating and body-image issues have been a problem for me for over a decade now. Like other areas of weakness, I'm going to improve in this area until it isn't my defining weakness.

So, there's that.

Hammer ride with some of the team and some others....

Burnt many matches in the first half trying to tow my wife back to the pack, which is tough since I provide as much draft as a 6 year old girl...

Still had some life left for the 15km drag home and she did a much better job of hanging on!

awesome ride. i did haleakala in february and am planning on doing mauna kea next time i visit. not sure I'll ride up to the observatory... heard that the road turns to gravel for several kilometers and only a CX/mtb bike would be suitable.

I drove up to the observatory last year, it was loose, deep gravel, and pretty steep. We used the 4wd. I think it was 4-6 miles of dirt.

My Sunday workout was moving a friend from a third floor apartment to a house. 4 hours. TSS unknown. My calves are sore today, and my arms a little.

Finished Cascade Classic yesterday then went to the lake to kayak and swim around with my kids - I'm trashed today. The cold water felt great though.

My legs were sore and tight all day. I finally decided to go ride this afternoon. I'll be damned if they didn't come right around after about 15 minutes. I had a really nice, if short, tempo ride for 1:15.
