Collegiate Championships

Any of you guys qualify for collegiate nationals this year? I'm very excited because it's taking place in my city, it's going to be on the same course as the 2015 UCI world championships, a couple guys and a girl on my collegiate team qualified and have fairly solid shots at a good result, and I get to race the open 3/4 crit around downtown on Saturday. Not very often you get to ride 2 miles to a bar next to a cobbled climb on a race course and watch some of your friends compete for a national championship while you drink with your teammates. It's going to be a great weekend! If anyone here lives in the mid atlantic, you might want to consider coming in to town for the weekend to watch or race in the open fields on Saturday.

Let us know how the RR trial run for 2015 UCI goes.
Plan on attending next year and want to figure best viewing spots ahead of time.

They just re-cobbled a steep climb up to Libbie Hill park, it's right next to a couple of bars so I'll probably spend a lot of time there. I'll take pictures from around the course and share with you guys to give an idea of good viewing locations.

I wasn't kidding, one of the guys on my team just won the D1 men's time trial championship. Wow.

I raced in the 3/4 field this morning on the crit circuit. Pretty narrow and lots of pavers on the corners. We had 100 entries but I believe only about 75 started, I ended up 38th and got pulled 2/3rds of the way in. The guys on the front of the main field were crushing it and I couldn't hang on after a poor first couple of laps, so I settled in to the 2nd group on the road and enjoyed myself. I'm heading back for the 1-2-3 race at twilight tonight, should get some nice shots. The collegiate guys roll at 3:30, maybe we will get 2 Stars and Stripes jerseys on my school's club team...

Best viewing spot from the weekend was Libbie Hill, the cobbled switchback climb. I guarantee that will be a mob scene for the men's road race in 2015. 23rd Street will also be pretty cool as it's a 20% max climb in one block.

Nice footage. I saw you go by in the pack and noticed the GoPro. Inspired, I rode Libbie Hill before work this morning.

hokie: ride on! the hill was fun in a masochistic way I suppose. the approach to it without much recovery made it all the worse

Dan: sweet, that looks like the second time up. thanks for sharing!

I'm guessing that's your friend on the right. I was unaware of the crash at the bottom, looks like some of my friends got caught up in it. Libby definitely ended many peoples races
