My Garmin 500 is not connecting to the computer anymore, seems like there is an issue with the micro usb port as it keeps turning on when it's plugged in but then turns right back off. Tried multiple cables and it's the same deal. Anyone have experience with this?, hoping I don't have to buy another GPS.

This isn't the way I had hoped my local association would make cycling news.
Not only the shame of being caught doping - but doping for a 10-man race "age-graded" race?!
Double ouch. Maybe even triple ouch.

I was going to post that saying he doped for a ten man race would be misleading, as guys don't dope for one race. And while he got caught there he was most likely doping for a while. The same was said about David Anthony getting caught at the gran fondo, how ridiculous to dope for that, but of course he was doping for years and had one several battenkill races in various categories.
BUT….
I looked up Hickman's results and all his fields are tiny..dahell
https://www.usacycling.org/results/?compid=242673
how could you possibly dope for that few guys? and it's not even like there are some big travel races on there

He did travel to Tulsa.
The interview with David Anthony when he got caught was illuminating. He wasn't doping to win anything in particular. He started doping because he felt insecure, like he was a fraud, like he didn't belong in the fields he was racing in because he was outclassed.
I think the decision to start doping probably has little to do with the specific competition, in most amateur cases. It's more a manifestation of a particular personality type.

That's a normal field size here, and that was the two-state association championship at the end of the season. I didn't race it this year, but I did last year; I raced M60+ and we were combined with the M55+ and had 15 racers in the field. The M55+ guys included a former Olympian and a guy in an S&S jersey. Most races in the association are two-day stage races and Masters usually all race together in M40+ Cat 1/2/3/4. I'm considering racing more in TX so I can get trounced by guys my own age (RA next year is 65) instead of 40-year-old Cat 1s.

Yesterday I heard that a friend is quitting riding and selling his bikes. I think he is 85 now but I haven't seen him in a while.
He is the guy who taught me about group riding and so much more.
I should go by his place and say hi, he is one of a kind.

I remember an interview with him feeling sorry for himself, that he used to be World Champion, and now was a has-been.
Maybe he missed the fact that he was actually a character in a scripted live action cartoon playing the role of "world champion".
Like Sylvester Stallone considering himself a boxing champ because he played Rocky.

The golf course is cool with it?? Around here people freak out about riding on park grass, let alone precious turf.

10am.
If it's blood sport you are after, be aware that our mutual crashy friend was not invited. Directly. As in, "you guys can all come race, except for you."

sounds like a cool venue. off-camber, esp if things get wet, can change everything.
one thing worth thinking about: mishaps happen in CX. people burp tires, crash and break a shifter, etc. one reason not to have a course that is so long is in case of a mishap people are SO far from a pit. this course loops back on itself (which means you can have a 2-sided pit...that is nice), but it is optimal when you have that on a short course.
i just mention this because i think you are a bit newer to CX and some of these things may not immediately be obvious. just because the terrain exists doesn't mean it SHOULD be used.
i know you have mentioned guys with lots of cx experience in the past, so i'm sure they have a plan--no disrespect at all.
hope you enjoy the riding! sounds like a unique opportunity to create a favorable impression. nice to have a good venue to play with.
out here, a promoter runs a small event in a local (90' away) park. the park is AMAZING for cx, but each year while they set a good course they never truly take advantage of all the park has to offer. my buddy and i got approached this year to set next year's course. i bet it will be way more work than expected, but it's exciting -- having a cool venue as a canvas is HUGE.

He started racing in 2007, the year after Floyd's Tour. I remember getting a physical that year and there were all sorts of androgel type ads in the doctor's office. It was the stuff someone got busted for using (the testosterone patches). But the fact is that it was heavily marketed for "low T aging men".

2AM - go to kitchen to get a drink. Sounds like the sink in the laundry room is on, wtf. Step down into laundry area into 2-3" of ICY COLD water.
****ing water heater decided to just gush cold water out the top, down the side. Everything is wet, few inches of water. 2 hours of cleanup and running around trying to find the shutoff valves.

Cold water out of the water heater? Does that mean the flame went out? You need to figure out if there's gas still coming out?
