Cyclist arrested for playing radio "too loud"
I wonder how many drivers the NYPD has
arrested for playing the radio too loud.

I have no problem with the police arresting him. I would love to see tickets issued for motorists with outlandish loud radios, another form of distracted driving in my opinion. But as to the cyclist...he needs to learn that we all don't share his taste in music.

The cyclist needs to get the chip off his shoulder.
I'm sure the initial issue was simply a noise ordinance violation.
This is a textbook case of how *not* to act when stopped by a cop.

I'm guessing that he was arrested for disorderly conduct rather than simply playing the radio too loud. Not saying the cop was completely in the right, but it is clear that the cyclist was spoiling for a confrontation and he got one.
BTW, I've never seen anyone arrested for just playing a radio too loud, driver, cyclist, pedestrian, or homeowner/renter for that matter. I have seen lots of citations issued based on noise ordinances and disturbing the peace.

NYPD's animosity towards cyclists is legendary, so I personally can see why some NYC cyclists have an axe to grind when it comes to NYPD and it's officers.

Cycle Year Round
Sad Anarchists harmed cycling in NYC.
But NYPD needs to grow up.

I bet NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly sanctions this kind of bias. Yes, The cyclist isn't entirely free of fault as a result of his behavior. At the same time, the NYPD is notorious for its' bias against cyclists'.

I don't think it was the republican convention incident, I'm pretty sure it was when the cop assaulted one of the riders on a Critical Mass ride and then they lost a big lawsuit.

This cyclist just wanted to make a point, and probably feels he made it.
In reality he just reinforced a lot of peoples beliefs that we have something to prove and go out of our way to be a pain in the arse.

I haven't come across too many really hostile people yet since starting to commute this Fall.
Mostly just the occasionally people who honk their horns for no apparent reason, or those that feel the need to pass me within 30 feet of a red light, then hit the brakes in front of me.
No shouting yet.

Give it some time........... I've been the recipient of several screaming tirades, had my personal belongings ransacked by an irate motorist looking for my ID, reported a number of motorists to law enforcement, been swerved at on several occasions, tailgated, shot at (pellet gun), yelled at, and seen more unsafe and asinine passing maneuvers than I care to remember.

incazzare.
Me too. No big issues. I've gotten more guff from other cyclists, actually. I've had a couple complaints that my lights were too bright... Well, they're dimmer than a car light, steady (not flashing), and not aimed up, so I don't get it.

LA - sort of makes you wonder why some people consistently have problems with "cagers" when others don't. Might it be that shoulder chip? Attitude? Style of riding and self entitlement?
Just wondering how you and me - who both ride everyday in urban settings with lots of vehicles around - aren't at war and some others are in a civil rights struggle

The jerk brought it on himself. NYC has and enforces noise ordinances, so while he claimed to be singled out, he wasn't. It wasn't in the video, but from the early conversation had been asked to turn it down, with no citation issued. He chose to disregard that, but probably could still have ducked a citation with a mea culpa and turning it down. Or he might have gotten a desk appearance ticket by producing ID or maybe talked his way out of it even then.
Instead he chose to be an idiot and waste everybody's time.
No sympathy here, not over the radio, but for being a jerk.
