Front DerailleurQuestion
I bought a 2009 Fuji Cross Comp a couple weeks ago and the front shifter is confusing me. I tried to Google for the answer, but I am afraid my own ignorance is hampering my search. Hopefully someone here can help me.
My right shifter shifts my rear derailleur just fine. My assumption was that the left shift would do the same for my front derailleur, however this is not the case. Am I simply not understanding how my front derailleur/left shifter works?

Please do not take offense, but I will make an assumption of your level of bike knowledge based on how you wrote your post. A lot more detail is needed for the problem to be diagnosed here.
I suggest that you immediately take your bike to the closest bike shop (or the one you bought it at) and have them look at it. It might be a repair, adjustment or maybe just some instruction. This will be quicker, less work and less frustrating that trying to communicate the details on this site.
Good luck.

Your question is lacking some information. It is like asking a question like ---- My car wont start -- can someone tell me why?
What is happening when you shift?
What components areyou using?
Has the bike ever been services?
We need as much detail as you can find to help figure out your problem. You are correct that the left shifter should work the front derailleur.

Does it not shift all or just not well? You should see the derailleur cage move outward when you swing the brake lever in and move inward when you hit the paddle (small lever behind brake lever).
I agree that if it's only been a few weeks, I'd take it back to the shop. I will also say that front shifting with Shimano STI shifters can be a little goofy and is sometimes hard to get adjusted right on a bike with short chain stays. It's not unusual for cables on a new bike can need some readjusting after the first month anyway and the bike shop should take care of that for you.
It's also possible that when setting the bike up for you they didn't tighten down enough the screw that holds the front shifter cable in place and the cable just pulled loose.

Not at all, I am a huge newbie. I will take it to the shop ASAP.
But, to try to clarify for what it is worth: the front cassette is not shifting gears. The rear casette shifts gears fine. It could be the shifters or FD. I just don't know.

does the derailleur move at all when you hit the lever? Are you getting audible clicks when you hit the lever/

The actual shifter 'triggers' (which I push to change gears) seem to respond normally, just not the actual FD itself. The rear cassette has 10 gears while the front cassette has only two. I just tested both the FD and RD and the RD shifts to all 10 gears normally, but the FD does not seem to move the chain off the smaller cassette (?) onto the larger.

Take it to shop and have them adjust. It sounds like the cable tension needs adjusting or cable hasn't been routed correctly.
