I need a Campy 9 spd cassette

My bike shop is having trouble finding a replacement for my Campy 9 spd cassette. Does anyone know where to get one, even through mail order? Or is there an easy substitute that won't cost a fortune?

Campy Veloce 9sp cassettes are in production, are good and inexpensive, and should be readily available. Quality Bike Products lists these in their catalog -

https://harriscyclery.net/site/page.c...&Category=1707

Your LBS should be able to get one via QBP, or you can order one from repartocorse.com or harris cryclery.

Thanks for the tip. I have ordered what I need. My "local" bike shop is 1 1/2 hours away, so I will take it to him and let him put it on.

Sydney

this bike shop was vote "the best in Reno" so I thought I could trust it. Our town is too small (5000) for anything reliable. One hands one bike to some Jr. College kid and get it back three days later from a different Jr. College kid. I checked Branfordbike and they had some and found some other (including ebay) myself.

It does seem like Campy should make 9 speeds available more easily to bike shops, even if they have gone to 10 speeds.

Campy is still supproting 9 speed. Most shops don't stock campy, but one that can't come up with a campy 9 speed casette shouldn't be in business. FWIW,get a casette lockring tool and a chainwhip and install it yourself. Sure beats a 1.5 hour trip to a lame a$$ shop. The in town shop should be able to source anything your or I can, and they even have sources we don't.Ordering a casette is not exactly rocket science and even nose picking jr. college kids ought to be able to handle it.

I was thinking of switching to Campy also. Given rainy conditions, how many miles can you get on a campy rear cassette?

Be prepared to shell out some coin for that switch. Chances are excellent that you'll need a new rear wheel as well.

You don't actually need to use a Campy cassette. You can use 10sp Campy Ergo and derailleur with a Shimano 9sp cassette, so you don't have to get a new hub/wheel unless you want to.

I have heard that Campy cassettes last longer than Shimano, but I don't have any personal experience to confirm.

I'm look'n for less maintenance on shifters, cables, and derailers. So is it worth the coin to switch?

All drivetrains are going to require a fair amount of maintenance if you ride in the rain a lot as I'm sure you do in Seattle. Campy Ergo shifters are more reliable and maintainable than STI, but I am not sure I would generalize that to the rest of the drivetrain. Campy and Shimano derailleurs are both good and both subject to wear and tear in harsh conditions.

I got 5000 miles on my Campy Veloce cassette. I was "average" on maintenance.
