pedal insert - carbon crank
I have Campagnolo Record carbon cranks. Today while tightening a pedal, I believe I felt the threaded insert "slip". It did not strip - just felt like the insert moved.
I was not over-torquing the pedal. I estimate I had 10 ft-lb on it when I felt this.
Does anybody know if these cranks have an internal "spider" of aluminum, or are they all carbon with just a floating insert ?
I'm afraid to ride it now, as losing the insert would be a real bad wipe out.
thanks for any info.

I'm actually with Fietsbob here. We can't see the part, and this is a diagnosis that someone is really going to have to look at. Record Carbon are all carbon with a threaded insert in them. If that insert is stripped it may or may not be able to be fixed but it's going to take a close physical inspection to know for sure.
5 posts and snarking at the people that help out a lot here, hence his 6k posts. Way to make friends skippy.

CCrew, you're right and I apologize. I just found the paucity of the response amusing.
You answered my original question - the insert is pressed or bonded in, and there's no "spider" or core inside the arm. I don't think it's a repairable part. I took the bike (serotta ottrott) out for a ride around the block, carefully, then jumped on the pedals a little bit, seemed fine.
Put it back in the stand, and marked the insert and the arm with a Sharpie, took the pedal out and re-installed it, torqued to 300 inch pounds (I have a thin crowfoot 15mm wrench with a 3/8 drive on it, Snap On FCOM15AT).
The thing did not feel solid on pull up and the marks are now offset, indicating that the insert moved. So I'll have my LBS order a replacement arm from Ochsner tomorrow, they are the importer. Hopefully they will have a replacement LH crankarm.
thanks

Sheesh, I don't, work for Campagnolo, or in a high end pro bike shop,
like R&E that you CAN visit.
personally, at 63+ , I've gone back to IG hubs.
[like the Sturmey AW3 I had when JFK was not yet shot]

tighten it again. If you feel it slip again, I would have it checked at a shop.
