Looking for a Suntour Bar-Con.

I had a pair of these Suntour Bar-Cons on my first road bike two years ago, and I absolutely fell in love with them! Simply fantastic ratcheting action and a nice design.

Got in a crash a while ago and broke one, now I am looking for a replacement. I am running a Suntour right and a Shimano left on one bike, and I am looking to do the same on the other bike. I already have the Shimano one from the set I used to replace the broken one after the crash, but I do not have a Suntour one.

I did find a lever from one in the co-op bin last time I was doing BB repairs.

Does anyone have the body or a full Suntour Bar End shifter lying around?

Where are you? These are somewhat common in the local bike co-ops and used parts emporiums. You'll also have better success on the Classic & Vintage forum.

I've got a touring bike that I have used

Since you need a left-hand one, also look for the black ones from Suntour's indexed-shifting twilight. The left-hand lever from those sets was still the ratcheting type.

Shimano had one too, they used a counter spring to compensate
for the return spring in the FD.
so cable stays tight , and lever pulls the FD back and forth, a little stiction you can adjust.

theres 1 in a bin here.

There is no right or left. Look at the picture above.

Yes there are. They look like this:

(click to embiggen)

As I mentioned, the left side uses Suntour's one-way ratchet setup. It wouldn't be a cosmetic match, so it's up to the OP whether that would be acceptable or not.

Yes the new indexing BarCons are left and right simply because of the indexing. in friction you could put them on either side though.

the OP is looking for the older ratchet type shifters and they were ambidextrious

However, in friction mode, the right-hand Accushift Plus bar-con is not a one-way ratchet. Just for the record. Given that the OP is already running a mixture of Shimano and Suntour, I thought he might be OK with two different Suntour models, if it's the ratcheting that's the main attraction.

Yeah, I don't mind if they're different. I would even be ok with one that does not ratchet.

I just dont have the money to justify eBay prices above 20$ with shipping at the moment because I already have down tube shifters that work.

It's a match issue, cable pull distance has to be = to the cable pull requirement at the back.
so Shimano Cassette + shimano RD + a shimano Index Bar end
7/8 speed are OK because 8th cog was N+1 added to a 7 speed stack.
with same spacing between cogs.
9 is a further compression of the stack, thinner spacers between thinner cogs.

Maybe I'm reading wrong, but 6/7 is 126mm and 8/9/10 is 130mm.

Incorrect. Per Sheldon: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-spacing.html 7-speed cogs are 5.0mm apart while 8-speed cogs are 4.8mm apart.

Guess you like to play gotcha with the dead eh?
Hey I use friction shifters , personally, I could care less about the 0.2mm

I expect the top pulley lateral float will cover the 0,2mm also..

I have exactly what you're looking for. single suntour barcon with bent shift lever that doesn't work well, but the bracket is straight and true. you can put your lever into it and be ready to go.
