Univega Superlight
I currently have a Specialized Allez SE, but I'm realizing its a little too small for me so I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist for something.
Anyone know about the Univega Superlight?
$260

from the ad:
Full Shimano 600 sounds good for the price, I dont know how older aluminum frames hold up though.

Really nice late 80s (?) univega superlight. Features a 53cm all aluminum frame. Bike has a full shimano 600 group, including pedals. Brand new continental ultra sport tires and tubes. Nice components and stiff ride. Very rare bike.

Having bought a lot of bikes over the years, my general rule of thumb is non matching chrome fork plus front wheel does not match rear = crash victim. I'll buy a crashed bike, but only for parts (so the price would be a small fraction).
I've had an aluminum Miyata from that same period (possible maker of this bike), and the fork was painted (color matched). I've also had an aluminum Bridgestone from that era with a painted fork as well.
FWIW, I sold the Miyata for the asking price above, in ready to ride condition.
Lousy pic, lever hoods look funky. Sure don't look like late 1980s 600 to me. Typical seller, rare does not = valuable. Rare can sometimes mean a model that did not sell well (failure). Univega didn't make any of their bikes anyway.

I agree with Bill I don't think these had chrome forks. I also noted the 'hoods' and I think the issue is the actual rubber hoods are missing.
If this is a 53, the current owner is way too tall for it, just what size is your Specialized?
More information is needed on what 600 it has. Aberesque, New 600, New 600 EX, 600 SIS?
To me while the fork may signal some sort of accidental damage, I don't automatically assume that for mismatched wheels. It is always possible the front wheel was stolen or lost (from a bike rack) or the rear wheel got damaged and was replaced/upgraded.

I thought I saw one of these recently. This just sold on ebay for $181.00 and free standard shipping.

I think you guys have convinced me to keep looking.
The Specialized was supposedly a 53cm but I didn't know anything about bikes at the time. I measured it recently and it seems to be a 50cm! It's possible I mismeasured, but it's definitely a little small because I always find myself trying to sit further back on the seat than it's made to. I'm 5'8".

Had I known two days ago the Bianchi frame was broke I would have bid on this.
I am a little old school when it comes to sizing so at 5'8" a 53 sounds small to me. I thnk you should be looking more around 56, seattube center of BB to center of seat lug. That Bennotto looks bigger than 57 to me, might be the angle.

5'8" with a 56cm could be fine, depending on whether you have long limbs or not. I'm only 6'0" and prefer a bike in the land of giants, 62-63cm range, which is "technically" too big for me. Seems like every time get below a 60cm, seems I have to start playing games with extra long stems and maxed-out seat posts, etc.
It helps to ride several different sizes and find out what feels right.

The bike has aluminium replacement fork actually as good or better than the rest of the stuff. But Don't buy it just a lot of issues most of which aren't good.

Yeah I passed. I'm thinking I might just go for something more current and keep the Specialized around for shorter trips.
