Hi fellow C&V'ers.

I am looking for an appraisal of my 23" 1987 Schwinn Prologue. It has Dura Ace 7400 7-speed drivetrain, Campy Record hubs laced to MA/40 rims, Dura Ace calibers with Aero Gran Compe levers, Modolo Professional Stem/Anatomic Bars, Concor saddle, and vintage Look pedals.

The frame has a few touchups, but, from a distance it looks immaculate.

I had it built as a junior racer, so it's sentimental to me, but I would like a honest evaluation of the worth from the "professionals" on this forum.

I doubt local market would bare more than $375 for it, but if you're willing to box and ship, could possibly do 30% better on ebay. If it doesn't move in the high $400's part it out and you'll do even better.

That's a popular size and a very desirable frameset. The Prologue was sold only as a frameset, and the 7-speed D-A group build is appropriate as are the Record hubs laced to MA40 rims. I wouldn't waste my time trying to sell it on CL. I sold my last complete bike, a Paramount, on ebay stating "local pick-up only", but also saying I would deliver the bike free of charge to a local bike shop of the buyer's choice for packing and shipping at the buyer's expense. That worked out well, and I didn't have to deal with packing and shipping. I'd guess on ebay you might be able to get $600 or $700.

Sadly, even on eBay not many buyers know just how good these bikes really are. Also not a sellers market right now, and I think Scooper's estimate a somewhat ambitious, even if parted out.

Do you really have to sell it? That's an awfully nice bike....

+1 on the Prologue still being a mostly unknown top line bike from Schwinn for even many C&Vers.
It was just that everyone was just so used to the Paramount as Schwinn's only really top line bike for so many generations, so when these newer, also world caliber bikes, started coning out from Schwinn, it did not register on many people's radar. These will be big sleeper bikes for a while that will just certainly gain more value in the coming years. So get them while you still can, at very affordable prices...

This was Schwinns Top of the line full inport race bike during the late 80's they are way undervalued current market $400-500.

I'd remove all the lights, bags, etc for the ad. They make the bike look cluttered.

Also, you're cross chaining, that looks bad in photos too.

Actually it looks to be in the lowest gear small front, large cog rear), but it would look better in the highest (large front, small rear).

I like the Sprint parts. I have had a couple of black Schwinn Circuits with that group. Looks good and works well. There are buyers that will pay large for the Prologue. Sold one before the economy tanked in '07 for north of $500 on LA CL. It did have a Campagnolo group including seat post. The PO had put Superbee shifters on it. The buyer had one stolen and he HAD to have it.

I sold a 58cm frame set on ebay for $201 in Dec 2011. When I get ahold of one in 60cm it will be a keeper.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Fortunately, this one has been in my hands since the day it was built. As I mentioned in the original post, this Prologue has sentimental value. It is not and will not ever be for sale, at least until I'm gone. Although, a few have tried to pry it from me.

It's a wonderful bike. I sometimes wish I had bought that DeRosa or Pinarello Montello, instead of the Schwinn frame. But, each time I take it out, I am glad I bought this frame.
