Fuji Absolute - saved from trash.

This one was tossed out by a woman who had issues with the owner, the wandering husband who was no longer present.
He was gone and she just wanted all of his stuff gone too.

Brightened up MY day !!

Looks to be a 1989 model in "Metallic Slate" with some nice upgrades- RD, brake levers, ect. Good find!

Thanks for the info:

Very similar.... but this Absolute I picked up has the Suntour Accushift levers brazed onto the down tube instead of clipped onto the handlebar stem.

Other than that, it looks like the same bike.
It needs new tires and a good wash -- and it will be good as new.
The tires are probably 25 years old and still filled with the original Japanese air.

That's not all that's different. The catalog bike has stem shifters and downtube stops. The decals match but the components don't. Head scratch...

These where pretty nice for basically an entry level shop bike. The accushift blaze stuff never seemed to index correctly on the couple of bikes I have used with it but if you make sure there no slack in the cable they work fine in friction mode. I would say cleaned up nicely with another set of tires the bike would be worth about $200.

Yeah, yours seems like it has a derailleur hanger on the dropout and not a claw mount like the catalog. Maybe the specs are different because it was marketed/sold in Canada and not the US?

The third character in the serial number should be what year in the 80's it was manufactured (198_). Fuji Bicycle Serial Number Formats - 1971 through 1991

Yeah. Slightly different animal.

The pink one in the catalog has the claw and mild stamped sheet steel rear drop out but mine has forged drops. There are several sets of numbers on the BB. I'll check out the Fuji Formats link.

Thanks for that.

I would, and it fits me, but Christmas is coming fast, and it would be nice for someone else to find this Fuji under their Christmas tree in a week or so.

And - I think I probably have between 12 and 20 other bikes that I prefer to ride.

The third character in the serial number is definitely the letter "L"

The serial number is "F8L" followed by five numbers... which does not quite fit the Fuji info from the link.
