Ebay value of '84 Trek 460 frame?
I've acquired this '84 Trek 460 road bike, and I'm wondering if I can use the parts and sell the frame to make my money back. The frame is in great shape, a few small scratches. Tange double-butted tubing, lugged. Looks to be a 56 or so to me, haven't measured yet. I flip bikes locally but there is just no market where I live for quality road bikes, and I could really use some of the components (rear rim is a vintage open pro, etc). Any idea of how much this frameset may fetch on the bay? I'm hoping for about 150 or so, but wonder if this might be overly hopeful.

Post pictures first, and how are your marketing skills? I have found huge variance on ebay on identical items, all due to marketing. The same item can bring 3 or 4X through great marketing.
This inefficiency has allowed me to buy items on ebay that are poorly marketed, and then either resell them locally, or even back on ebay.
I have similar experience trying to sell frames locally. There just is no market. So I hold on to the mid range ones, and rebuild them when I have time and parts. High end frames bring good money on ebay. Trek has a nice following, so a midgrade one like a 460 should get a decent response.

Constant tinkerer
I think people around here (including me) don't want to buy a bare frame because they know it will cost a fortune to build unless they already have a bike to swap components, or it's the deal of the century. The only reason frames sell for money on ebay is that with such a large market you're bound to find someone out there who's "gotta have it" and will pay more than it's really worth otherwise.
I bought an '84 Trek 460 on CL for $140 and later sold it for $220 on CL as a fixed gear. Good luck, but personally I doubt the frame will bring $150, even on ebay.

+1 I have my doubts on the $150 mark as well, as the buyer will have to pay shipping on top of it. On the other hand, crazy things happen on ebay, so who knows?
Around here, $150 plus shipping will get you a complete 400 series Trek on the local market.

Alright, thanks for the tips. Seems like the frame will actually fit me quite well, so I think I'll just hang onto it for some personal project down the line. Decent road bikes are hard to come by down here (in New Orleans) so I think it'll be worth keeping, especially as I got it complete for $60.
