How much should I pay for this Univega Gran Rally?

So this guy is asking 225 for this bike and she's a beauty. But, I'm having a hard time parting with that much cash. What do you guys think?

if it is all tuned up, lubed, and the disposables are in good shape, I'd say that $225 is Fair Market Value.

horrible color for such a great bike.

i bought one (an '81) for $60 and sold it for about $300, but it was sky blue and fully overhauled with new consumables.

maybe with white tape and a nice looking saddle, that sea green would look ... ok.

In my market, Atlanta, this would be a $200-225 or so, in good riding shape...

I like the color! If it's in good, ready to ride shape, that's a fair price. If the paint's really great, I'd rebuild, detail and polish and ask 300 and expect 250.

you don't buy a bike to do a rebuild only to make $25 on the sale. your time spend doing the rebuild + parts is worth more than 25$ on it's on.

to the OP, dude jump on that bike. offer him $200 cash in hand. and bring the extra 25$ just in case.

i had an old univega grans sprint that i had planned to rebuild. i bought it for the frame mainly. was $25 at a thrift store. had to leave it in my old place that was dangerous to live in. grrr

I was just trying to say how I would price it and no; I would not call that a good candidate for a flip. The OP wanted to know the value of the bike; not if it was a good flip.

Having flipped more bikes than I can remember; I am sure I have lost money on a few In the early years. I have purchased many bikes just because I liked them or couldn't afford it back in the day. I knew I'd get most (if not all) of my money back. If that bike was one that really knocked me out; I'd be happy to own it; enjoy it, tune it, detail it and send it on for $25.

Hell that's a pizza and a pitcher!!!!!!

It's a nice bike! It's even my size and I really like the Univega's too. I'd take $225 and try to get it at $200... if it's the rider it looks like it is in the picture.

nope the OP wanted to know if that bike was worth buying at the price. at least that's the way it came across in his post. i agree nothing to do with a flip, but i made the comment based on your xtrapolated rebuild comment. many times folks know what they mean, but it's not what they say. that's seem to be the case here imho. it's all good. i hope he gets that bike and rides the wheels off it .

i will say this so far as the general consensus that time spent on a rebuild/flip can't be recovered in terms of monetary expectations. in some cases i agree, if the person likes to do that stuff, and it's fun for them.
on the other hand i fee you can price a rebuild to include your labor. of course it depends on the sking price and the actual bike value as presented to the buyer. i say don't swallow the pill that our time isn't supposed to be compensated by $. only swallow that pill by force of circumstances imho.
