I’m new to this site so please be gentle is I’m posting this wrong or something of that sorts. I just got this bike but can’t find any comparison online. Wondering if anyone knows or can direct me to more info on origin and price. Sekine Black Panther 26 inch. Looks to be all stock, not modified by previous owners. Looks like it has electric headlights that come on when pedaling. Looks to be Japanese by the tags it has. Any info is appreciated. Thanks. Can’t post photos yet because I’m new to this forum. First of all, isn't it sad that some folks come here and ask to be treated "gently"? I mean, is it that bad on this and other forums that people have to ask they be treated with courtesy and respect. I know the answer, it is more rhetorical than anything.
You can post photos to your gallery on your account page and we can find them there. Some kind person might even paste them in the thread.

On bikes, any bikes, condition and size matter. Bikes in good condition and of a popular size will bring higher prices. Just common sense, but it is worth mentioning. If it is very small or very large, it will have fewer potential buyers.

Looking forward to seeing it.

The Sekine "Black Panther" is a rare bicycle in North America. In all of the bikes, that I have salvaged (thousands), only one "Black Panther" has come my way. What little I learned is that the bike was made in Japan and then imported elsewhere. I live in Canada and at least one found its way here. I do have pictures but getting at them is a pain as most of the bike pictures are stored on external hard drives.

Other than that, not much else to offer, except that the bike was/in incredibly heavy and did not enjoy the ride quality much at all. Is it worth much? Perhaps to the right collector.

Thanks for posting my pics whoever that was. It is in nice condition just needs to be thoroughly cleaned and “derusted” before it gets worse. Rare is a good word. Not sure on pricing tho.

Rare, as most of us know, doesn't equate to value. And the bike is very small, so that lessens the potential buyers. Having said that, it is an interesting bike with some interesting details and there may be someone out there that will get all lathered up over it.

I hesitate to even offer a guess on the value.

Cool bike! I think this was a trend there for a while in Japan in the 70s with bikes fantastically decorated with huge lights and racks and stuff, sort of the bicycle equivalent of the 'bosozoku' cars. I think there is even a thread here for it. It might have a specific name, I just cannot recall it off the top of my head.

That being said, it does look complete, but I would rate the condition as fair to poor - looks like all the metal surfaces have moderate to extreme rust. A special collector might be looking for one of these, but the condition may make it hard for them to pull the trigger.

If it is your size, I would get it ridable and use it. Are you looking for valuation for selling?

Well it’s already rideable. It’s fully in tact. I am looking for a valuation for sale tho. I have a Pure City 28 inch that I’m very fond of, gift from my dad. He rode it for a long while and I inherited it. I’ll add a photo to my album. I think I can restore the Sekine to at least better condition. Plan on working on it this weekend.

It's a pretty neat and very unique bike. But I doubt you could get more than $100 for it. And that would be to someone who appreciated the novelty.

Interesting that it is a Japanese model complete with original 70's plate not a great bike. Yet it is a interesting and complete time capsule so I could see $200 or so to the right buyer on local sale. If you want to get the most money and are willing to ship international you could part it for a bit more on evil bay.

Wow! It's all there lol, probably close to 50lbs with all the racks and fenders. That must be a beast to ride.

Worth? Oh boy that's tough, $100 or a 12 pack of Budlight.

i did ride it and it’s uncomfortable with the handlebars feeling low and changing gears is a pain. The freewheel is strange because the sprocket doesn’t move just the pedals.

It appears to have a front freewheel. Allows you to shift without pedalling as long as you are moving

+! it is a early FFS bike looking at the rust the Front crank freewheel is likely partially seized or sticking you could try spraying down with several treaments of PB Blaster and hope for the best. I will strongly advise you to not take apart or try to fix the FFS crankset from I can say from expeiance that it is unlikely that you can get back together and working b better than it is.

Actually a 55lbs we had one at a bike coop a l while back and it was the heaviest bike the lot pretty much a tie with it's namesake the 50's Schwinn Panther and the Chinese built Flying Pigeon.

Thanks for info on the front freewheel. I’ve never encountered that. I don’t intend on removing anything. Just gonna try to scrub off some of the rust and take it from there. It shifts easily enough and the rear wheel moves freely. I’m not noticing any seizing but I’ll take a closer look.
