Value of PX-10 with repaint, Pics included

Here it is, it belongs to an elderly neighbor of my mothers and I didn't know what to tell him.

It belonged to his son that recently passed away and the son owned it from new, I'm curious what you all think it may be worth as is or as a frame and component group.

I believe there is a lot more mods to that bike than just a repaint. Personally, if I were a PX collector, I would pass on that bike.

That being said, I'm not sure parting it out will yield you more than good marketing of the whole. In my area - which is impacted by New York City tastes and pricing, something like that would still bring north of $200. Unfortunately, that "look-at-me" color might not work too well in the city where more bikes are stolen each day than bought.

So, I guess if it were me, I'd try selling it at the upper end, and as a non-original 531 framed bike. Its the path of least resistance, and if it doesn't bring any offers close to your asking price, you always have the option to reduce price or part out. If you start parting out, you lose any other options.

Just my humble ramblings.....

Totally agree. No way that the bike came with Barcon shifters...
It's worth whatever you can get for it. It's Value is probably in the 300 range.

Sell the bike with whatever wheels the customer wants. Then sell the remaining wheels separately. If the What appear to be black anno Shimano Dura Ace hubs are left, then I would consider removing the freewheels and taking them apart. While the rims have a market, and the hubs have followers, doubtful they are the same guy who wants both. Wheels are getting expensive to ship, hubs not. I have seen more than once hubs hat were wheels and went unsold get taken apart and the hubs sell for MORE than the wheels were offered for. So it goes.
I agree, $300ish, maybe high 200's so it sounds cheaper. A PX-10 has turned out to be a bike that gets a premium for original paint, and a big discount for repaints.

Oh, one other quick suggestion. Dump the day-glo pink tape for either black, or something more neutral. Thats a $6 fix that may open up the bike to more prospective buyers.

I didn't mention the obvious component changes simply because they were so blatantly obvious.

I know he had an offer of $250.00 as is from a friend of the family so rather than try to explain the ins and outs of parting it I think I'll just suggest he take the $250.00 and be done with it.

Thanks for the help guys.

The tire to seattube dimension looks rather large, for a racing, sport bike. But that's usually the first thing I notice. Chris

But keep in mind that the rear wheel is all the way back in the (LONG!) dropouts - not the normal position.

Even with the repaint, DANG! that's a pretty bike. If it was my size I'd be so all over it (and in SO much trouble...)
