Masi Team 3V Volumetrica
Picked this up yesterday. It has quite a mix of parts. Some good, some not so good. I'm thinking of either going with Chorus 8 speed or maybe Sachs New success groups. The Sachs would be nice because the bike has several Sachs decals on it. Also I think I want to lose the stem and adaptor and just go with a nice quill.

Nice looking bike Joe. I like threadless stem adaptors if they look ok, the combo on your bike, eh, not so much.
If parts are readily available a Sachs build would be cool.

Yes, Sachs drivetrain, and wear a Bell helmet, Gatorade in your water bottle, with Powerbars in your jersey pocket and stop at LaSalsa for tacos.

Used to be a grail bike for me, used to, because I pretty much gave up looking for one as it seemed like every one that comes up for sale in the past five years for me, had really bad rust/finish problems so you are very lucky to find this one that's in what seems to be VGC! Congratulations on getting this baby!
I really like this particular model Masi as it was their break into more modern tech bike design with the the pioneering use of ultra thin gauge oversized steel tubing, and the more modern lug design, all of which seems to have been a strong counterpoint to the then strongly emerging aluminum frame formats coming out of Cannondale, Trek, Vitus and many other bike manufacturers at the time.
Agree with the rest noting the unattractive looking stem needs to he changed out with something more period appropriate and better looking. The Sachs group seems to sit well on the bike though, but one can also go for something like an early Chorus Gruppo or a C Record/Delta build too, if a full Italian build is preferred.

Aluminum fork on this one. I guess that makes it one of the last Team Volumetrica's? Don't know if the aluminum fork is better or not. I love the ride of the bike however and the Aluminum fork doesn't seem to make the ride any harsher. For sure, that stem must go. At this point I'm going to go with the Sachs group, or one reason, I don't have a spare Campy group laying around and I don't want to go Shimano on this one. I'm thinking that Mondonico might have made this, as the chain guard has a Torelli decal on it.

Cool find, Joe. So, do you know which team rode this bike? Looks to be in decent shape for bike used on the racing circuit.

No. I'm pretty sure this is just a regular volumetrica with the crazy paint job. There were quite a few team Volumetrica bikes floating around...like the infamous purple one that was interesting. They were available to the public in bike shops. As I recall, those sponser decals on the top tube were used as advertising in exchange for Masi being able to sell the frames for a lower price. Interesting concept to say the least. At any rate, I think it looks kind of cool.
