I have a fabulous collection of my Father's QSL cards, going back to his very first, a CW with a gent in Halifax, NS, IIRC. I would dearly love to find someone who would appreciate them. I also have his home-made 5 meter rig that was in his Model A.

Still learning
Trumpets and cornets:
1951 Conn 80A in almost perfect original condition. Beautiful engraving, combination satin and gloss silver plate, and a gold wash bell. They literally don't make stuff like this anymore. Didn't come with a case, so I gutted a modern one and remade the interior for a custom fit.
1965 King Silver Flair 1055T. Wasn't looking for one of these, but too good of a deal to pass up! Dizzy Gillespie and Harry James both played these late in their careers.
1958 Reynolds Contempora Leonard Smith 40S. I spent a boatload of money getting this restored, but worth every penny. My daily player - quite rare and my pride and joy.
I've also got a few others: A '35 Conn 80A, a '69 Reynolds Emperor cornet, and a '70s Schilke trumpet.

When I stopped playing after more than ten years, mom sold off my Bach Stradivarius and kept my Bundy student trumpet. Your beauties make me lust even more for the old Bach.

GB,
Impressive stash there, is it true that the older tube amps do have a better sound quality, can you still repair the amps, how would you find tubes if one goes bad.....or is that the next collection that you are going to share with members?
Just as a side, for those uninitiated could you share the meaning of the hand gesture that is in the shadow?
P.S. still playing twister?
Regards, Ben

I got the Twister board from an apartment I had in the mid 90s. The previous owner had a Twister mat as a shower curtain, and left the board in the apartment (along with a ton of other stuff). I've just kept the board as a cute display/momento of that time.
The hand sign can be interpreted as a variation of the the phrase "I love you" and in other circles, and most commonly these days, as the sign for "metal" or "rock on" or something to that effect.
(freakin' ImageShack lost my picture of Jessica Fletcher making the devil horns)
EDIT:
I found the Metal Jessica Fletcher picture at work, forwarded it to myself and uploaded it to PhotoBucket. Take that, ImageCrap.
End Edit.
Some older tube amps sound really good. The little Gibson Falcon amp just sounds fantastic- the Marshall and the Park, although they sound similar, they have their own sounds. I think the big difference in these amps compared with the amps that followed, they allow for a lot of "breath" in the gain and the overdrive- it's not as compressed. They also don't get as "metal-ly" but that's part of why you'd look for one of these amps as opposed to a JCM. These days, with a lot of the digital modelling and such- solid state amps are REALLY good nowdays. I've had these amps for over 20 years, so I know how they work for me- I don't want to get a new amp and relearn it. Besides, I just don't play as much as I used to.
Tubes are still available. It seems that the tubes that are in current production are mostly in former Soviet bloc countries. Then occasionally you run into old tubes. Right now the Falcon is running on some Sylvania tubes that my brother in law scored for me- they sound great in that amp.
I've always liked solid state amps for bass as opposed to tube bass amps. I've got a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ that I need to put back together- but it's one of those "someday" projects- you're talking about 12 EL-34s and a bunch more preamp and rectifier tubes...

You should pick it back up! Many of the folks in the band I'm in played in high school and college and then took a few decades off too. Then, like me, you'll have a whole new N+1 itch to scratch.

From my experience, horn players get to write their own tickets- more so than a vaguely competent backup singing bass player.

You know someone cherished those and you can see the "hand" on them...interesting what was made with simple tools...nice!

I'm not comfortable with everything hanging out there in the breeze.
In fact, I keep seeing my bike pics in fake CL ads, so I am winding down some sections of those as well.
People may have to come visit to see some of these........

Can't tell from the photo for sure. Smaller Advents? My first stereo speakers. Sold to a friend who said he would sell them back to me if he were to sell them. He didn't. Great speakers.

LC and Staub are indeed pretty proud of their cookware, but one can hand a piece down to the next generation so cost per decade is reasonable.
There are good quality ECI knock-offs that perform perfectly well at very affordable prices in the marketplace as well, some in the pic.

Not sure whether two is a collection, and one is not vintage, but...
1925 Old Town Otca, 18 footer AA Grade (mahogany trim) recently restored by Alex Comb of Stewart River Boatworks, Knife River, MN.
1990 Will Ruch Minetta. Not canvas, but Ceconite, which makes this 15 footer weigh in around 45 pounds (the Otca is 90+). Birds eye maple decks, sitka spruce inwales, cherry outwales and other trim.

Diecast cars and model kits. I used to have a ton of them but lately I just gather Minis - the original kind, not the new mini BMWs. I have a bout 300.

I have a son's high school grad party coming up June 7. After that I'll be getting both out of the garage for a good cleaning and will take pics then. They are both--big red and little blue--wonderful canoes. I purchased the former in 2008 (interesting story. The Craigslist seller had committed to another buyer. When he realized I would actually paddle the canoe he called the original buyer--who planned on hanging it as a decoration from the rafters in his Colorado cabin--and turned him down). It's been out on seven BWCA trips and one trip to the Quetico. Probably 1,000 miles total. With the Ruch I was out on a two week solo and then lightly loaded with a friend for a week in the BWCA and for another week with my son. Both fabulous paddling canoes.

My thanks to all,
I thought I would add a few more of the things I like, I really want to thank all for responding to this thread....it is interesting to see the other things we all collect and get to know many of you in another way.
A few more of my many fountain pens
Some of my mechanical cameras, many I bought while still in boxes (new old stock) when the "newer" electronic cameras came out. I paid very little for them considering the effort and material that went into building them....don't get me wrong I shoot digital now but still like the old stuff.
