Help, Raleigh folks
Particularly those with Grand Prix from the mid 70s
I am headed back to the States for a short time starting in Sept.
I have gotten rid of many of my tools in the States or I brought them here.
I would like to know what tools I would need to work on my bikes, I have a 74 and a 76 Grand Prix.
I have 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, + 17mm wrenches and a set of metric allen wrenches
What else would I need? Could you check what size nuts and bolts are on you bike and add what tools I might need
I need to rebuild my Normandie hubs on the 74 and clean and grease the bottom brackets and headsets on both.
I have new wheels for both and know what cone wrenches I need but don't know what cone wrenches I need for the normandie hubs that were on the 74 from before
The 76 came as just a fork and frame

The brake cable nut may be 7mm. I recommend a small adjustable crescent wrench also, since brake cable bolts are known to sometimes have both ends of the securing mechanism be of the same size, and whether yours is 7mm or 8mm, you probably need two of whichever it is. Pretty sure your cone wrench will be 14 or 15mm also. Do you know what type of headsets you have? I always use a larger adjustable crescent wrench for working on mine, so I never paid attention to the size required.

I have a couple of 70's Records. If you have the Raleigh threading, your headsets will have 1-5/8" adjustable nuts, and the locking nuts are about 1". Most people seem to use adjustable wrenches -- for the adjustable nut, you'll need about a 15" crescent to get that much jaw spread. I have a small service wrench that size, but most people don't fool with that. The bottom brackets, you just need a hook spanner and the adjustable cup has a 5/8" raised area -- I've been able to use a Park HCW-11 a bit on that,

It's unlikely that you have any Whitworth parts on that bike, if that's what you're scared of. There are a few on my '80 DL-1, but that's a very different animal.
Cone wrenches will probably be 14 or 15 on the Normandies, but why not grab a pair of 13s, too? They're cheap, light, and packable.
If you're going to pull the fixed BB cup, I highly recommend BikeSmith's Raleigh BB tool.
Good luck!
