Amazing! Another ebay DeRosa fiasco!

Gents --- this is a beautiful machine -- De Rosa SLX Road Bike Campy Chorus | eBay

In one of my other threads , (https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...dge-gents.html)
I had been looking at a red DeRosa that was a bit over priced considering it had paint flaws

You folks basically told me (not in these exact words) - to sober up and wait for one for $1300 or so --- good advice

HEre it was ---- I watched, I waited, - with 15 seconds on the clock I put in a max bid request of 1650 (it had been languishing at 1100 for a bit)

---- then I waited to get the confirmation of my bid - and -------- NOTHING --- I called ebay afterwards and they have no record of me putting in a bid at all, --

I think this is a sign from above to finish up my miscellaneous projects, -- then start buying less and riding more

It is a very nice machine though if the pics are still up -----If I didn't win it, I hope it went to a fellow C&V'er

meanwhile I still have that Vianelli and Bottechhia to finish

I have a Faema themed 54cm De Rosa Professional with a CyclArt Cat 2 repaint that I would consider selling.

PM me

Mine is nowhere near as clean as that one, $1600 would have been a very good price for that bike as appointed.

it just wasn't mean to be, and yes, I always use AuctionSniper - bids in the last 3 seconds to get you the best possible price, makes you honest with yourself when you set it up, keeps you out of bidding wars and costs 1% of what you win.

If you're buying components or you're interested in several frames, you can set up a bid group - put any number of auctions in the group and it quits when it wins one for you.

I've built 3 bikes this way. Paid $50 for a used Chorus brakeset, $60 for a new one.

May I suggest using "Gixen" . It's easy, it's free, it has some grouping tools. It's reliable (over 5 years not one fail.). It's free, it's free. I donate 6 bucks a year to him by choice. It's free.
Cheers, Eric

I paid for 3 bikes, 2 kayaks and a couple of firearms collecting, buying/selling and repairing antique fly tackle over about a dozen years.
I used Auction Sniper and believe me, 1% is cheep

It was a pound the table moment ---- But naah, i'd never wish bad karma on the bike -- whoever won that thing is likely as excited as i would have been

im not a billionaire playboy or anything either, i'd already mentally come to terms with selling a couple other things to make room in the garage for yet another bike i dont need

I think the frame is in excellent shape but for $1345 + shipping I would expect Record.

By being on this forum you have a big advantage over ebay----use adhuntr.com and the facilitator thread to find a De Rosa. Big ticket bikes often languish on Craigslist in the smaller markets....

I hear ya loud and clear on Record vs Chorus in that price range, I roughly feel the same way myself ---- I just look at it as the "ebay tax" that we pay often times for convenience

Thanks for the tip on adhuntr ---- and to Bulldog and LAstride for the "sniping" software tips

If you were using your phone or a tablet to bid that may be your problem...the confirmation box sometimes pops up "off center" and if you don't zoom out or to the side you never see it and can't place a bid.

Dang it man, your right ! - I just used adhuntr and pulled this one up almost instantly - not a DeRosa , but a very cool machine that looks like its in "daily driver" condition -- as in, -- nice, but you wouldn't cry if you crashed it

the deals are out there --- (just posting this link if it looks interesting to anyone else -- I have enough triple chainring "daily drivers" myself )
