spring cleaning, anyone finding anything?

Oddly enough I haven't been coming across too many bikes out on the curb so far, my only other source is the ole recycle center at the dump and its been filling up the last few days. Sadly havent come across anything worth taking home still though (not that you'd expect to find anything really good, but hey!). I almost brought home a old CCM Targa 10 speed in my size (boy are those heavy!). There was also this old and very rusty red sekine in my size, it was rather bottom of the barrel quality however (I thought they were supposed to be 'good'?, everything on it was steel but it seemed kinda light for some reason, and it had a neaty fancy head badge indicating made in Canada AND Japan. Saw a very rusty CCM Formula II with a bent fork which probably woulda looked pretty neat brand new, though made outta the same tubing as the Targa and probably just as heavy.

Not in my size (about a 58cm) was this awesome looking sears 10 speed, 70s metallic orange with a full chrome fork, it was heavy and junky in terms of quality but I really wish it was my size as I'd like to "soupe" that thing up just for its beauty. Also saw a silver peugeot the same size as this sears bike, kinda nice but very low quality just the same. Oh well maybe I'll go back tomorrow and see if anything else has been dropped off.

1 Men's and 1 Women's Schwinn World Sport 10 speeds (with the crazy BB freewheel ) and 1 Vainquier (?) bike boom 10 speed made in West Germany. Almost trash. I sold th e womwn's Schwinn and the Vain. frame for $20 I will more than likely donate Men's Schwinn to the bike co-op.

Just leave them on the curb and I'll come by and pick them up from you for free. So in other words, you won't call me a poacher if I tell you that last weekend I picked up a Bianchi made of Columbus tubing right in your back yard for $75.

To be honest with you Mike, I've been so frickin' busy with the bikes I have on hand and my own bikes that I try to avoid CL at this point. I was out of town last weekend anyway, riding that pathetic Delta Century.... >ugh<

I'm probably going to sell the Guerciotti tonight (guy says he definitely wants it and is committed to dropping by after work - we'll see...). I've got the Tandem to sell, a Peugeot to clean up and turn around, a small mixte frameset to build, a Viscount-based single speed to finish, the Legnano mixte to build, a Trek 470 that needs overhauling....... and at least half a dozen bikes in the shed. The list just goes on and on. I just finished the Palo Alto last night, I still have a Pinarello to build, and now I have a little frame en route from NJ for the daughter. I'm tired of working on bikes.....

'Sides, it's riding season, and any spare time I can scrounge I'd much rather use to ride around. Speaking of which, how come my phone's not ringing? You don't love me anymore?

To be honest my situation is a little different. I've run out of bikes and so I've gone to extremes and on Saturdays do my Garage Sale Loop which I caught a Trek 400T Elance that's going on CL tonight. However, our grandson has been with us on the weekends so I've been homebound with him and haven't ridden much out of the area. I miss getting back up there were you're at, because that's the last good ride I've done.

That's a good catch - if it is in decent shape you will have no shortage of buyers. I sold one several months ago that was cosmetically so-so but mechanically excellent. It went fast.....

Back to Spring Cleaning - mostly I've just been tripping over stuff and shuffling things around in the garage. I need more space......

And the ugly truth is that I'm just a bit burned out on turning the wrench.

The other night on my ride I pulled in to my "stump dumb" to see if anything interesting had arrived. I found a very nice Marin Muirwoods MTB that looks to be 100% original right down to Marin branded saddle and post, stem and bars, and get this, Marin blue knobby tires! Silver paint is about a 7-8. Frame is welded and appears to be CrMo double butted. I haven't had a chance to take pics or to try to date it but it looks to be about a '90 with a Shimano 7 speed hyperglide cassette. I think it was left there because the spoke protector had broken loose and was flopping all about. Great reason to toss a very nice bike. I'll have to find this fellow a new home. I don't need another MTB.

It should go fast but there is a small dent on the side of the top tube. I didn't notice it until I started cleaning it up because it didn't even break paint! Other than that the paint is really nice and so are the decals. Everything on it is OEM and I even addded a little seat pack to sweeten the deal. With it being 531frame material, $175-200 should be the price.

I finally got ride of the 50cm Marinoni I bought over a year ago, a guy is buying a victory groupo off my tonight (I unlaced the hubs and put the VGC MA 40s in a safe spot for when I have time to relace them with new spokes to record hubs)... and I have a slew of other more exotic components to sell including a delta brake set... I have to take some photos but should be posting in the for sale section and on CR early next week. Anything that doesn't sell goes to ebay. I have all the parts I need for the three unbuilt bikes I have so I am trying to get rid of the surplus and focus on finishing those as time allows.
